Barbie's Tree
Barbie's Sargent Crab is experiencing its first Spring. It was planted last June 19 (2007) in her memory. It's exploding in bloom! It's wonderful and I'm glad I had it planted!
Enjoy your Spring!
The act of planting creates memories.
Reliving those memories is happens every time you step outdoors and take notice.
Hi Carol, We had one at "our other house," that I was certain would expire every Spring! (It put on such a beautiful floral show!) The conditions here are somewhat similar... a bit more shade in my front yard, but not much! I really appreciate the fact that the fruit are enjoyed by birds in the Winter.
What a beautiful tribute! I think Crabapples are just as stunning as Cornus florida. I love this time of year when all the Crabs are blooming. Don't you love their scent?
MMD, I really think I must favor Spring. You, too? The variety of flowering trees with their colors & scents. Just wonderful! ...I don't know... those dogwoods are beautiful! ;-) (You keep me busy looking things up!) It's good for me!
Hi Brenda, You're welcome to visit anytime you wish! :-)
Gail, It is a wonderful tree, isn't it? Would you like to hear something interesting? My next-door neighbor/friend and I were visiting this afternoon. Her mother died around 4 years ago. She planted a flowering crab as a memorial. It turns out that we've both planted the exact same tree as memorials. And they're both blooming "like crazy!" :-)
That is a wonderful and touching story! You know your sister is there with you this spring and always!
If I had the sun they needed I would choose one for my mom, but friends gave me a Witch Hazel which smells sweet in winter and has beautiful coloring in the fall.
I love knowing our special trees will be growing and blooming for a very long time!
Gail, I needed to look up the Witch Hazel and found a site with many photos. It has very unusual (delicate) flowers and lovely coloring, doesn't it? I will think of you this Fall as you enjoy your tree's beautiful changes. It's a wonderful way to remember your mom.
Such a lovely "memory tree," to flourish for years to come. The Sargent Crabs are so floriferous and I love the large, rugged trunk and mounded form that comes with age. I have its cultivar, 'Tina'- slower growing, a bit more horizontal in shape, with persistent fruit... grows about 8' high x 8' wide - nice manageable size. The buds are deep pink, flowers white and do the birds love the fruit!
Deb, I just looked up "Tina." It sounds just as lovely and "floriferous!" :-) The Sargent Crab we planted 28 years ago, at our other home, grew about 8 - 9 feet tall and I'm sure it was 15 feet wide! Amazing! ;-) I'm so glad you could visit... I know this is a terribly busy time for you these days!
Thank you for visiting today. I don't mean to make it hard for you to leave a message, but temporarily I am going to enable word verification. Too many spam messages to deal with lately. Thanks for your patience! SG
It's a beautiful tree, and a lovely memorial to your sister. It looks like it is going to be a magnificant crabapple as it continues to grow.
