Mistress Mary, Quite Contrary, How Does Your Garden Grow?

With Silver Bells, Cockle Shells, and Pretty Maids all in a row...

...Or...

Silvery Trains and Streaming White Tresses,
(Gooseneck Loosestrife, confined)

The ladies go riding in flowing green dresses.

Stately appearance with long craning necks,
(flower scapes nearly as tall as I am!)
Reddest of redsAnd Standing Erect...

A bow and a curtsey,
(Should she drop her kerchief?)

They dance all the evening,

While gazing at stars...

  1. Goor morning Shady,

The ladies of the court are lovely as they pay homage to your star. Very clever, Shady, Do you know the name of the long legged daylily?

  3. Gail, :-) The long-legged red is named "Red Volunteer," and the tall yellow is a spider daylily entitled "Yellow Mammoth."

Troutbirder, Just a bit of whimsy. :-)

MMD, Thanks! Sometimes, that's all that's needed. :-) The clematis is a class II "Niobe."

  4. Hi Shady,
So that's gooseneck loosestrife eh? Pretty stuff, but I think we'll pass on that one, given our Lysimachia explosion here, hehe.

I see that your Liatris is about where ours are right about now, having bad hair days that haven't quite resolved themselves yet. We got some pics yesterday, but may wait until it's a bit more fully in bloom before posting it.

One of these days soon, I'll just have to post one of our "trashy" day lilies just for fun, since we can't get rid of them, no matter how hard we try. (They keep coming back from the neighbors' yard under the fence.) I should really look into how to eat them, because they serve no other purpose in our garden other than to be given away!

  5. IVG, the thought of eating the daylilies made me laugh! :-) Well, we did dip pumpkin blossoms in fritter batter once. They were great! (We really only tasted the fritters.) :-)

I don't know if my liatris will have better hair days, or not. It may be getting too much shade? Either that or it's too much humidity. lol
