Garden Blogger's Bloom Day and Green Thumb Sunday

Have you ever tried to be in two different places at the same time?
I seem to schedule myself this way, periodically.
It never works! ;-)

I'm attempting a GBBD a bit belatedly,
and the Green Thumb Sunday, simultaneously!

I was thrilled to see, when I returned home last Tuesday,
a tiny blossom in one of my garden beds.
I'd planted 4 hardy cyclamen bulbs earlier... and look what happened!
(It's not much bigger than the tip of my index finger.)

This hosta is Diana Remembered.
I think these white blossoms are quite lovely.

Surprise lilies, anyone?
This was taken on the SW front of the house.
If you look carefully, you'll see where two trees were removed.

This is in the backyard.

And a close-up. Yes, I'd just watered.
It's very dry here!

When bright flowers bloom
Parchment crumbles, my words fade
The pen has dropped ...

Have a great day! :-)

  1. Very nice blooms. I love the surprise lilies and every year when I see the few in my garden, I want to find room for more of them.

Thanks for joining in for bloom day!

  2. Hi Shady,
I finally got my bloom day post up, laggard that I am, lol. We're still waiting on our surprise lilies here, because our neighbors' have already popped... As we recall, ours were late last year too, so you'll see them when you see them!

Way past time for me to get to bed, but I've got my networking problems resolved now, yay! I still have to work out a few kinks, but I can access all the old music and picture files now! Happy camper here!

  3. I just love those little Cyclamen. I had them at my old garden, but I can't seem to find the right place for them at Squirrelhaven. I like how you've sited your Magic Lilies so that they borrow their neighbor's foliage & don't look so naked.

  4. Those surprise lilies are a beautiful color. I love cyclamen, especially the white fragrant ones. Ours look rather bedraggled right about now.

  5. Hi Carol, My surprise lilies are really "going to town" this year. I have quite a number of them. ;-)

IVG, Congratulations on resolving your computer networking situation! I'm sure you're quite happy about it!

MMD, I'd read that hardy cyclamen don't grow easily from bulbs... so I was very happy to have one grow. Perhaps the others will follow. :-) I have some "naked" lilies, too. They just aren't as photogenic.

WWW, I'm so glad you stopped by. Do you have the surprise lilies? They're Very Easy to grow. (My kind of bulbs!) ;-)

  6. Hi Shady,
I forgot to mention yesterday that we've tried those Cyclamen numerous times, in different places and they have been a total dud on us. Pity, because we'd really love to have them, but they don't appear to like our garden. Neither do those supposed hardy Gladiolus ... we give up!

  7. Shady ~ What beautiful pink Lycoris! Your hosta and cyclamen blossoms are also delightful. I once had pink hardy cyclamen, which petered out after a couple of seasons.

Just wondering - do you grow Colchicum as well? It's such a nice surprise to come upon those billowy pink flowers, popping up unannounced, each fall. I also enjoy the substantial, pleated foliage which tarries awhile each spring. One can always find something interesting going on in the garden! (Love the water droplets on the cyclamen petals!) ...Deb

  8. IVG, If you and GA can't grow the hardy cyclamen, then I'm in good company! :-) It was a bit of a shock to see the blossom, as I was prepared to let sleeping bulbs lie. ;-)
However, at the Michigan zoo we visited, there were beautiful hardy glads blooming! I might have to try them.

Deb, Thank you for putting a name on the Surprise lilies for me. I'm ever the lazy one these days! I've not tried colchicum. I just looked them up... they're a crocus. Very pretty! :-)

Thank you for visiting today. I don't mean to make it hard for you to leave a message, but temporarily I am going to enable word verification. Too many spam messages to deal with lately. Thanks for your patience! SG
