Ottawa gardener, Thanks for stopping by. Too bad you couldn't sample! ;-)
Hi Gail, It's delicious and I've made many, many gallons lately! The apples were free and that's even nicer!
Kylee, I did add a little cinnamon, but not enough to color the sauce. These apples were allowed to grow "gracefully and naturally" ;-) (as in most backyards), so all it takes is a little washing, quartering, coring and cooking. 24 apples plus 1/2 cup sugar and a little cinnamon (when I remember!) makes about 3 quarts of applesauce. My food mill makes it so I don't have to peel! (That's what makes the color).
Frances, This has been a super blessing! I've frozen a LOT of sauce, given away a LOT of sauce and have been baking as well!
flydragon, :-) It'll taste even better this Winter!
Kylee, I'm baking two cakes right now... and I'll take a photo and post the recipe soon. Let's compare! (I also make my own adjustments that, I believe, work out even better!) :-)
Have you completed the Master Gardening class? I was very tempted to participate last Winter... Would you recommend it??
Thank you for visiting today. I don't mean to make it hard for you to leave a message, but temporarily I am going to enable word verification. Too many spam messages to deal with lately. Thanks for your patience! SG
Forgive the short comment but: Yum.
ReplyDeleteDelicious looking!
ReplyDeleteYummy! Is this the natural color or have you added some cinnamon? I love cinnamon applesauce!
ReplyDeleteHi Shady, good job on making all of us hungry!

ReplyDeleteHi Deb! Yes, there's some left over... but not much. You'd better hurry! :-)
ReplyDeletetroutbirder - I agree! However, I have an apple cake recipe that you'd flip over! I'll be posting... :-)
I've requested the recipe for apple cake I had at the Master Gardeners' meeting. I'll be posting that when I get it. Wonder if it's the same?!

My mom is a Master Gardener, but I am not. I want to take the classes if they offer them here this year.
