I took photos of the front of the house this morning. But I actually worked in the backyard(!) for awhile today. We'd received 2 1/8" of rain while I was gone and Last Night we received another 2 1/4" of rain with wind that brought down twigs, small branches and lots of leaves. I took out the little water garden and placed a pot in its place (foreground/left). This will probably change again next year, but I just wanted to try something different.
The pot has 'Tropical Rose' Canna. If you want to know how to care for this plant (and propagate it!), Click Here for great information.

I will soon post close-ups of several Heuchera varieties I've planted in front of the lattice this year. In the past, I've planted annual flowering vinca and impatiens which filled in beautifully. But there's always the option of change. :-)
Your gardens are looking very lush and beautiful Shady Gardener! I guess that's what a lot of rain will do! Change is good too. I like to switch things up from year to year or at least every two years. It gives us something new to look forward to...
ReplyDeleteHi SG, I was just thinking today how nice it is to try different plants in different places and containers. Your garden is beautiful. I love the varying textures punctuated with the trees. Looks to me like things grow better in YOUR yard. :)
ReplyDeleteYour gardens are really lovely. I'm green with envy.
ReplyDeleteThings are lush here too (as in green but not colorful!). It's the coolest, rainiest spring I ever remember. Nearby cottonwoods are dropping leaves like crazy--I think they think it's fall already!
ReplyDeleteShady; your garden is looking very happy. Love this time of the year with all the shades of green...........
ReplyDeleteAll the rain has made your shady garden lush and gorgeous! I am trying new containers in the garden, too. It really helps...
ReplyDeleteNew heuchera...that sounds exciting!
Gail
I love how your gardens are looking. I like moving things around too. I always think of it as a free way to change the garden around!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathleen, This morning was beautiful and sunny. I'm noticing some cloud cover approaching, however. Guess I'd better get outdoors while I can today! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Grace! Thanks. :-)
Bobby, You're not green with envy, you're green, too: Green thumb, green fingers, green gardener! ( think I'm the one with the dirty toes!) ;-)
Monica, We had a Very Rainy Spring last year... this one may be trying to "catch up!" ha. Cottonwoods don't need to make additional droppings at this time of year!! ;-)
Rosemary, All the way home this past Sunday, I was noticing the varying shades of green! Isn't it wonderful?? :-)
Gail, some of the new heuchera are very pretty and unusual!
Catherine, You're right! Wait until you see what I did yesterday! ha. ;-)
Lucious indeed.
ReplyDeleteSometimes its good to change things around. I love the blue pot with the Canna. The rain is such a blessing for the garden, but not for the gardener. Have the mosquitoes started biting yet? I'm dreading them.
ReplyDeletePerennials are beautiful, easy and cheap! When you have perennials, it's like having several different gardens all season!
ReplyDeleteYour gardens are looking very lush, indeed!
Hi Lisa. :-)
ReplyDeleteMMD, This pot will be more lovely as time passes, I believe! There were a couple of pesky mosquitoes yesterday... time to break out the repellent and the bird bath deterrant. (Not only are they a general nuisance, I get a bit leery of them.)
Sylvana, I will agree with you on most points, however cheap doesn't always happen. ;-) The nicest gifts are when people share what they have with each other, and that begets memories!
Hi Shady, your garden is looking wonderful. It's good to change things around. Your lawn is looking very lush, it's great that you've had rain.
ReplyDeleteLush and lovely!
ReplyDeleteSend a little precip this way. We've had our share of clouds and sprinkles, but very little in the way of actual rain... lots of threats and rumors from the weatherman, but nothing meaningful. Many new gardeners, with newly planted shrubs and trees, mistakenly relying on all these "rainy" days, while their plants are drying out from the bottom up... the deepest roots becoming dehydrated.
By the way, let me wish you a belated "Happy Birthday!" Sounds like you had a fine day. And I love that Beatles birthday song... sang it to myself, last month. ~Deb
Everything is looking awesome! I love Heucheras. I have the Ginger Ale variety on my wish list. Can't wait to see close ups of yours. -Jackie
ReplyDeleteYour photos remind me of one of the cottages from a magazine. Great variety.
ReplyDeleteSure does look lush. We have been getting tons of rain also. In our case it seems like too much green so I may have to do the option for change.
ReplyDeleteCatmint, My life (as well as that of everyone else) seems to be so busy, that I haven't had occasion to visit lately!! Hopefully you're getting your oft-needed rain. :-)
ReplyDeleteDeb, I was shameless, wasn't I? Soliciting Birthday Greetings? Next year, though, you should let me know when your birthday is (Now that I know it's in May!) :-)
Jackie, I'll have to look up Ginger Ale. I cannot keep up with the number of varieties out there (and I don't intend to, now!) :-)
Chad and Brandy! I've decided I'd follow you anywhere! ;-) Thank you for that compliment!! However, you cannot imagine how far behind I am on weeding. There are so many other projects I want to finish...
Patsi, I understand completely. See my comment to C & B, above! We are definitely getting plenty of rain... and it sounds like Deb (Garden Author)needs it.
Yes, lush! I'm looking forward to seeing them throughout the season.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue! :-)
