So, in honor of my Dad and his Green Thumb, here's my post. Click on a photo to enlarge.
Out in the Sunny Corner bed, looking south-ish.
Do you see a tiny pink spot in the middle on the extreme right?
Sunny Corner Bed, looking easterly.
That little pink spot is now on the lower left, behind 'Autumn Joy' sedum.
This is a Stargazer Lily that didn't grow very tall. Perhaps I'd better move him?
'Pardon Me' Hemerocallis - Always loaded with blossoms!

This 'Stargazer' lily is in the Raised Bed Garden.
Actually, this was taken last night while two little neighbor helpers helped me garden.
Ta-dah! One of my new daylilies was blooming last night.
I apologize for the lack of photo quality, but here is Hemerocallis 'Spiritual Corridor'

Hemerocallis 'Ed Brown' will probably be blooming tomorrow.
Hope I catch him before I leave!
Hope I catch him before I leave!
And this is Not the Canna 'Tropical Rose' that I ordered,
but it's very pretty just the same.
I'll probably request 'TR' next Spring, as I only wanted a 2 1/2' tall plant.
This actually looks like 'Pretoria' which gets 6 - 8' tall.
(Maybe not the first year nor in a pot?)
What else is blooming? Rudbeckia hirta, Echinacea Purple Coneflower, a variety of phlox, many hosta, sweet woodruff, "creeping" sedum, astilbe, Pinellia tripartita 'Atropurpurea' (for the second time) ... and that's all I can think of.
I've been visiting some wonderful GBBD posts. You should check them out as well. Visit Carol at May Dreams Gardens to find them. :-)
Meanwhile, I'm supposed to be tying loose ends and packing for a trip with 10 high schoolers and 3 other adults who will participate withinin a variety of ministries in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. I'm very excited! If you are so inclined, you could pray for not only our team (that we'll be a huge help and blessing) but for all the wonderful people we'll be meeting.

Lovely photos of some great flowers - my garden is drenched with rain, so it's nice to see sun somewhere else!
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip :)
That canna is pretty impressive.
ReplyDeleteHi SG~~ I'll try to remember to pray. It's a big undertaking you're fearlessly (?) embarking on but I'm sure they're good kids and it will be a productive time.
ReplyDeleteYour blossoms are beautiful. My Canna 'Pretoria/Bengal Tiger' doesn't get very tall. I pick off the ghastly [to me] flowers so possibly this helps keep it in check.
I was going to suggest clipping your Oriental lilies to bring inside but if you're leaving... Don't you just swoon over the fragrance?
I think I could kill for 'Startle' daylily!!! [I'm a pink freak.] Absolutely fantastic shade and the form, with the ruffly edges--gimme, gimme. [I'm jotting it down on my wish list.]
Happy birthday to your father. My youngest daughter's birthday is also the 15th. My baby is 17. Where does the time go? I'm feeling old!
I like the Canna in the pot, very pretty! The lilies are growing wonderfully for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting!
Rosey
Nutty Gnome, We're just about at the stage where we need some rain now. It's been absolutely perfect temperature-wise, though! It's only 74 (I think) degrees outdoors today (wow!).
ReplyDeleteRosemarie, Thanks. Isn't it nice to get a compliment when you've done practically nothing to deserve it?? ;-)
Hi Grace! I have all evening to finish my packing. Thank heavens.
Thank you for your support! I'm sure it will go well. There is a list of interesting "projects" in which we'll be involved.
I DO love the fragrance of those lilies, but my husband would have me in the "doghouse" if I brought them indoors. He has this terribly allergy-sensitive nose. What a PITY! :-)
You'd better put 'Startle' on your list because it will take about 3 years for it to be "mature" enough to divide. ;-)
I visited with my Dad this morning. (How embarrassing.) He just turned a young 88 years old!
I'll be reporting in a week or so.
Rosey, I like the canna in a pot, too. I put a cherry tomato in a smaller pot. It's feeling confined, I think. But it's beginning to bear fruit! :-)
Great job baby sitting the lilies, nice photos.
ReplyDeleteYou have lots of blooms in your garden Shady. I wish you and your team the best of luck on your mission. Prayers and postive thoughts will go with you from here.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you managed to get this post done. I enjoyed seeing all your blooms. It's great that you're able to provide a temporary home for the Lilies, just don't get too fond of them. Your solution to the utility box problem is quite effective. I haven't figured out what to do about mine yet.
ReplyDeletePrayers and good wishes going out to you and your team.
I'm late for GBBD too!
ReplyDeleteYou have quite a lovely lily collection. EVERYTHING is so pretty!
BTW, I added you to my Blogroll, which I thought I had already done, and now it really is. :)
I think I need to find 'Pardon Me' and add one to my garden, I love that it reblooms. Everything looks so pretty! Have a great trip and I'll say a prayer for all of you :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, love Pardon me and the stargazers.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lilies! Your friend picked a good person to provide a nursery for her plants:) Have a wonderful trip; blessings to you and your group.
ReplyDeleteI love all the color in the July garden. I also like the new header photo, with the ligularia--one of my favs. :)
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks so neat and trim! I just bought some platycondon yesterday - I wish they had been Double White.
ReplyDeleteWow, I've never seen the double balloon flower before, and really like it! But the daylilies are my faves. Most of mine aren't blooming yet; it'll be another couple of weeks, probably, but other people around the province have lots of them blooming now. The Asiatic lilies have started here, but the orientals won't be for some time yet. So I get my lily fix by reading other blogs...
ReplyDeleteThat's one tall canna !
ReplyDeleteNice mix of flowers.
I have to investigate the "Pardon Me" Hemerocallis....I want one !
Always love lilies.
happiest Bloom Day blooms! Shady...your garden is as always lovely! I wish that the daylilies lasted longer cause they sure are pretty...Have a good week! gail
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with your double white balloon flower too Shady Gardener. It's really lovely. Now that I know it's out there, I'll keep my eyes open for one of my own. Pretty blooms for July bloom day no matter when you posted them. I would have a hard time parting with those beautiful lilies when the time comes to give them back! Have a great trip and "see" you when you get back.
ReplyDeleteOhmygoodness, everyone! I'm so sorry, but I cannot respond to each of you individually here. But thanks for leaving your comments. :-) And thank you for the well wishes. We had a wonderful trip!
ReplyDeleteLovely blooms! I didn't see this in time to pray for your group. I hope it was a blessing for all involved.
ReplyDeleteSue, We had a wonderful time. It was a busy, busy schedule and we operated on not a lot of sleep sometimes, but it really didn't matter. :-)
ReplyDeleteI've been on a few youth group trips, and 1 Mexico mission trip with other adults. I know what you mean by operating on not enough sleep. I'm glad you had a good time.
