In Denial
#1
Really? We’re really leaving September?
But July’s not yet far behind…
Did we actually experience August?
I must be losing my mind!
I quite clearly remember awaiting
the arrival of Spring yesterday...
I know we left May, but what happened??
It’s not nice messing my mind in this way.
Are you able to enunciate “October?”
Living there just won’t compute!
That the clock speeded its hands ‘round
Is something I’d hardly refute.
Yes, I’ve trouble in leaving September –
Hadn’t this month just begun?
It’s akin to crossing a finish line
Before the race had been run!

Do you have enough acorns?
What a fun poem--and you're absolutely correct! This "summer" has gone by WAY too quickly!!! :(
ReplyDeleteLOL , so true , so true!
ReplyDeleteTempus fugit and all that. I certainly have been caught off guard. I need to hunt for the kids' gloves & hats and warmer jackets.
ReplyDeleteYou are oh so right. Fall has jumped upon us with both feet.
ReplyDeleteSo true. If we could get winter to go just as fast as the summer seemed to go.
ReplyDeleteHi All! I love it when people commiserate with me! ;-) Actually, the weather is perfect. Everything is beautiful. And I'm going for a bike ride! Yea!
ReplyDeleteI am not ready either...I don't know what happened to September! I suspect 10 days of rain wiped out the transition to October. Have fun on the bike ride. gail
ReplyDeleteSweet prose, my dear! I dearly love the fall, a great time to plan next years garden and DREAM of blooms to greet us in the spring.
ReplyDeleteRosey
Hi Gail, I suspect you're right about your weather... and I suspect when I took last week off and went home to visit my parents, that helped too. But it is beautiful out there (and we had a wonderful bike ride!) ;-)
ReplyDeleteRosey, Thanks! :-) I really do love Fall, also. The fall colors and temperatures are wonderful... very conducive to enjoyable walks and bike rides! It just that it seems to have caught me by surprise! ha.
Yes, I remember longing for spring to get here. Today, in the music class I help in, the students started singing, "Sunrise, Sunset". I am thinking of looking up the lyrics and posting them for Garden Muse Day, which I've never participated in before.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your photos, too.
You're great SG. "Crossing the finish line before the race had been run!" So true, so true. Your poem is so apropos. In Denial is kind of blissful isn't it? :]
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented, I love this poem. I'm not really ready for October either.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has been collecting acorns and brings piles of them home with her from school.
Hi Sue, That sounds like a great idea. And what fun - helping in Music Class! That's a joyful place to be! :-)
ReplyDeleteGrace, Thanks for your thoughtful comments. I must admit that I've stepped up to the plate today! It's October 1st. I brought in the indoor plants and made a pan of Joey's brownies (Village Voice) this morning. Don't tell anyone, but the 8x8" pan of brownies is now 1/4 less than full! ha!! (They are delicious - esp. when they're still warm!)
Hi Catherine! Oooo boy! Does she want more acorns? I could ship them by the truckload! ha. Thanks for the compliment... it goes both ways! :-)
I feel exactly the same way Shady Gardener! I don't know what happened to summer ~ all the sudden it's almost winter. ugh. I'm hoping it will slow down. The poem is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathleen, I thought I'd left a comment. I must have rushed through my sign-in. ha. Well, you're right. But once this cold, rainy weather we've been having passes - perhaps we'll have those beautiful, sunny days that we often get in October! Then we can do what we need to do to batten the hatches before Winter! ;-)
