Tricyrtis - the Toad You'd Love to Kiss!

'Blue Wonder'

'Tojen'

'Taipei Silk'

'Moonlight Treasure'

'Shining Light' bud

'Seiryu'

Pretty Princely, I'd say... Lord Fauntleroy for sure!
I'm nominating (would you vote?) these plants as
Stately Shady Royalty.
:-)

  1. These are gorgeous! I was unaware of so many varieties. Royalty, yep. You've got my vote. I think my favorite is 'Moonlight Treasure.'
'Taipei Silk' is a close second. (I have 'Miyazaki' but I've got a serious case of plant lust brewing.)

  3. If I kissed one would I automatically turn into a prince... my spouse wants to know?

  4. I love toad lilies (and real toads, too!). I wonder what happened to a really cute toad lily I had... I'm guessing my pumonaria (which needs to be divided) squoze it out!

  5. Grace, I have a couple of other varieties not blooming right now. There are many I don't have. I think the plant breeders have gone bonkers over these plants (understandably!). I ordered Mayakazi a couple of years ago but it came infected with a disease. Reluctantly (last year)I dug it up, but believe it or not, this year it's growing again! I'll see what the blossoms look like, in case I have to try to destroy it again. BTW: My favorite variety (until this year) was 'Lightning Strikes.' It grew nice and tall, yellowish-green leaves (great for the shade) and somewhat bushy. It all died out last year, except for one little piece.

    Lisa, I think I've been smitten. ;-)

Troutbirder, Does she Want a prince?? (You mean to say, you're not already one???) lol. :-)

    Monica,
I discovered the need to mulch, and protect in the fall, those plants that are exposed to the elements. I suspect that's what happened to my 'Lightning Strikes.' Hope the little piece that grew this Summer will be strong enough to last the Winter.

Rosemary, I understand the urge! ;-)

  6. I love them all. I can't imagine having a shade garden without a couple of Toadlilies. I'm only up to 3 varieties.

  7. Oh my, I love that first one. Very interesting. I have never tried Toad Lilies.

  8. I am assuming these are shade only plants? Dumb question. They are so pretty, like the cute writing you used in describing them.

  10. MMD, It doesn't matter how many varieties, just that you have some... Aren't they all so different?

Hi Missy M, Thanks for visiting! They do like mostly shade and they do seem to need either a protective spot and/or protective covering for our Zone 4/5 Winters!

Hi Rosey, Yes. They're shade plants, but 'Blue Wonder' is handling an hour or two of sunlight per day...

Hi Cameron, They are delicate looking. I guess that's most of the appeal. :-) How are you? I've not been able to be "out and about" visiting people lately.

  13. I wish I had more shady spots for such lovelies as those.

  14. Hi Sue! Some of these don't take much room - at least not yet. "Moonlight Treasure" is just a little clump, so far. :-)

  17. Gail, I believe Taipei Silk is one I purchased because of your photos! Blue Wonder is very tall and bushy - you'd love him. :-)

Nutty Gnome, Oh boy! Slugs! So far, they've not been a problem with the toads here... hope that continues! :-) And I hope YOU have a great show next year (I'll be watching)!
