I hadn't meant to avoid doing this, but have just waited until I had a moment to think about it.
I did something similar a couple of years ago. I was very complete. Wonder what else I could say?

3) Choose seven other blogs to nominate and post a link to them.

Okay. I'm going to write about the variety of "chapters" in my life (during my married life):
1) While raising our two pre-school children, I babysat a couple of their playmates as well as a couple of other very special little friends over a 3-year period.
2) When they were school-age, for two years I helped a baker in her basement kitchen, doing her "finish work" by layering and frosting cakes, dipping truffles, etc. Fun!
3) For two summers, I worked for our local daily newspaper (weekday mornings),
4) For two years I began and operated a consignment Art Shop out of our home. It was great fun (I made and sold over 200 various styles of baskets)!
5) For two years I worked as an associate in the local school system. This was with one of my teacher/friends, in the Talented and Gifted Classroom. (She, herself, had researched this whole program and was allowed to develop and teach it.) During this time period, I was able to take several classes in Gifted Education.
6) While I was the teacher associate, I also returned to college in an evening program. For those same two years, I was able to take all the Methods classes necessary to complete the teaching degree I'd begun years before.
7) After the two years' associateship and teacher training, I student-taught with two other teacher/friends, substitute taught for 1 year, and was hired by our local school system as a second grade teacher. I began teaching as our daughter entered 9th grade. The rest is history. I took early retirement 3 years ago. My last class of 2nd graders entered 6th grade this year.
8) One last little fact: I love this new chapter of my life. Making new friends and having new adventures. :-)
P.S. Did I ever mention that I like the Science of anything outdoors, artistic and crafty endeavors, writing (prose, poetry and blogging), meeting and making friends, etc. ;-)
That's about it! As far as tagging anyone else... would YOU like to be tagged? Either let me know, or just go right ahead and create a post. Then you can let me know, because I'd love to read it!! :-) Have fun with this - it's only as complicated as you want to make it.

SG, what a varied and interesting life you've led! I love it! Thank you for being a good sport and taking the time to do this. I love getting to know my fellow garden bloggers better.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your nomination for Best Iowa Blog!
I always suspected art was in there somewhere, and cake decorating fits right in. But what a neat variety of endeavors.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to hear about your past, Shady! It sounds like you have made the most of each stage of your life to the utmost. I am at the same stage as you are, I believe, but maybe a little older. The freedom is fantastic and there are so many paths to follow it is hard to pick one. Gardening and blogging are good choices. :-)
ReplyDeleteFrances
It was so enjoyable to read about your work life and personal life.
ReplyDeleteGood meme! These are great ways to get better acquainted with other bloggers. Thanks so much for sharing this with everyone!
Rosey
Very interesting about you SG. It is always intersting to read about fellow bloggers. Glad you are enjoying your reitrement.
ReplyDeleteKylee, MMD, Frances, Rosey, and Lisa - Thanks! The best part is... "It Ain't Over Yet!" ;-)
ReplyDeleteNot crazy about tags BUT this one is pretty interesting.
ReplyDeleteNice to get to know your fellow bloggers.
I voted for you as best Iowa Blog.
Who is this other person who got it?
I think there should be a a recount. :)
hugs,Patsi
You've had some very fun and interesting jobs. Your students were lucky to have had you as a teacher!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to have met you through blogging!
I knew you had been a teacher but what an interesting journey you had to get there! Isn't retirement grand! I am almost retired~~Shady, it would be fun to live close to you and I am sure we would mosaic, too. gail
ReplyDeleteYou had quite the busy life. I am sure you were happy to be able to slow down in the garden.
ReplyDeleteHi Patsi! You're one of my favorites, too! ;-)
ReplyDeleteCatherine, I feel the same way about you. Perhaps we'll meet at a "Spring Fling" yet!?! :-)
Gail, We'd do a LOT of things... mosaic, birdbaths, digging trenches, hauling dirt and relaxing in the shade with a glass of something yummy! lol
Chad and Brandy... Hey, hey! I'm afraid a person doesn't slow down when they retire! Just you wait! ;-) By the way, there was a pair of bluebirds in the yard today and when I zoomed in on them with my new camera (up to #40) I got a close-up!! I can hardly wait to download it on my computer!
I enjoy reading what others have written, even though I don't tag. You have had some interesting jobs. I'd like to retire, but have 8 more years to go. I don't think we'll be able financially for me to retire for some time, so I'm thinking I would like to work fewer hours in a day. It's hard to think about having a pay cut, but our house is paid for. Every time I get some money saved to do some work in the kitchen, it gets spent for something else. I was having trouble staying awake while typing this, so I hope this makes sense.
ReplyDeleteCame in to say thanks for the congrats - but great to find this post when I got here. Love the caterpillar :)
ReplyDeleteWhat varied careers you have had.... artistic and creative for sure......
ReplyDeleteSue, I understand completely; both about retirement and about how the money saved can suddenly be rerouted! ;-) You made absolute sense, but I could tell you were tired.
ReplyDeleteSue Swift, Welcome to "my place." Thanks for stopping long enough to say "hi." :-)
Rosemary, I'll bet there are interesting chapters in everyone's lives. :-)
Loved reading this post and learning more about your very interesting background. Although I'm not anywhere near retirement age, I'm really looking forward to it! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou've had such a fun variety of jobs/experiences.
Hi Kathleen, Thank you! I have had a lot of fun job experiences... and life continues to present wonderful opportunities! ;-)
