Do you Wonder?
I'm just Wondering... about 'Blue Wonder.'
I'm just Wondering... about 'Blue Wonder.'
These two plants are just completing their second season, as they were planted early in the Spring of 2008. They do get all morning and late afternoon shade. They also get a bit of direct sun in between times. On a cloudy day and in the shade, my camera captures the blue color better. I wonder if the sunshine has any effect on the color of the blossom? At any rate, I've enjoyed taking photos of this very healthy couple of plants!!
These first two photos were taken in August 2009.These photos were taken September 27, 2009.
And these three photos were taken yesterday.
(I used a little zoom on this photo, but not much)
Do you think you'll want to add this one to your Wish List?(I used a little zoom on this photo, but not much)
Yes, I'm enjoying the new camera.
Nothing shady about that! ;-)
Very pretty, I really like the way they look in front of the lattice. :)
ReplyDeleteOh Shady, never mind the wart lily: that grainy piece of wood behind there is the thing!
ReplyDeleteI want it. What a backdrop. Is it wood?
Actually you may be right about the shady lilies wanting a bit of sun. I planted two last year after everyone was talking about them. In deep shade, and their buds are simply not developing into flowers, whilst the stems are lying down. Not happy like yours, obviously. And what a lot of flowers they are giving you.
Your slideshow mesmerizes me. Each time I visit I spent ages 'walking' there.
So glad you are still enjoying the new camera :)
ReplyDeleteYour plants look like they love the location you picked out for them
K
I love toad lilies and to have a bumble on them is great.
ReplyDeleteShady I am impressed by your toad lily plants. Lovely flowers.
ReplyDeleteI planted mine last fall. One small clump with a few blooms from a plant exchange. I never realized how easy they were. the clump grew in leaps and bounds and looks much like yours with as many flowers.
ReplyDeleteI'd always been nervous about trying them. they looked hard to grow. I've not done anything to it and it's thrived.
Wow !!!
ReplyDeleteI'd say they like sunshine !
You have so many of them and their standing up straight.
Now you're making me think about maybe getting some more for a less than full shade location.
You know, I think as long as they receive adequate moisture they can handle part-day sun. At least this has been my experience. Years ago I had a clump that didn't get much summer water and promptly headed off to the big compost heap in the sky. Yours are so healthy and full and a long blooming time too.
ReplyDeleteShady, Will Toad Lilies reseed or do we need to divide them? They are gorgeous flowering plants and I love seeing the bee visiting them! Keep enjoying your camera and sharing photos with us! gail
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca, They show up there, don't they? Thanks for visiting! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Joco, Nope... not real wood. It's supposed to be maintenance free and last longer. Perhaps it'll last longer, but nothing is maintenance free! ;-) We have an interesting town and by next Spring we'll have a bike/hiking trail completely around town. (16 - 19 miles?)
Karen, It's a special treat when the plants are put in the best place. It makes Everybody happy! ;-)
Lisa - I've seen other bumbles in photos and it was great not having to be so close to it as to risk being stung. ha.
Rosemary, have you tried these? They're really carefree... except they need winter protection, here.
Nicki, I am the happiest when I find plants that virtually take care of themselves... and pretty much, these do! :-) I'm so glad yours have performed so well for you!
Hi Patsi, I wonder if you might need to do a little homework? Perhaps some varieties like more sun than others (as do hosta).
Grace, I'm sure you're right. We've had a great rainy, cool summer - which often helps things grow! One of my favorite tricyrtis nearly was a "no-show" this Spring... it must not have been well covered during the Winter. (One little piece finally grew and I've babied it somewhat.)
Gail, I haven't found any little seedlings, yet... despite the number of blossoms. However, they do make clumps by growing little plantlets on the side... watch for them. I'm sure they could be divided, also. Someday my photos might be as pretty as yours! ;-)
So that's how they are supposed to look :) I hope mine will grow up to look like yours. I've already moved them to a new spot. Beautiful pictures!!
ReplyDeleteHi Catherine, Most of mine Don't look like this! ;-) Several of mine are short cultivars, but I do have a number that are tall. These are just as healthy as can be with this amount of sun... I'll watch for photos of yours! :-)
ReplyDeleteAmazing colors in that flower, they seem to like the location. Glad to see you are still having fun with the camera.
ReplyDeleteHi Chad and Brandy, I'm aiming to emulate you with your camera! :-)
