I Don't Know How
(this year has gone so quickly)
Spring - 'twas wonderfully pleasantin weather and in flower --
Summer- 'twas extremely shyof norm, so cool and rainy --
Fall has felt quite fleeting,
quite damp with fallen temps --
And now we see November.
November,
sweet November
May allow yet time to see
(photos above and below taken October 28, 2008 - things looking unusually green)
me outdoors with my yardwork
as I long to be.
(photo above taken October 25, 2009 - same plants from above... fall-yellow)

Wouldn't YOU like to participate in Garden Bloggers' Muse Day? Carolyn Gail of Sweet Home and Garden Chicago originated this popular Muse. You could create your own post. But even if you don't, visit her site to see hers (click here) and find out who else is participating! :-)
This year has flown by.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I see nothing "sweet" about November, the month I never look forward to. But if you do - enjoy.
Then I will hibernate until it is spring once more.
Thank you for saying nice things about November, my birthday month that everyone else hates!! (It is dreary and I understand why, but still!)
ReplyDeleteI see I'm following, Monica, my fella' MI birthday buddy (today is my youngest son's 27th birthday). I love November and your post, Shady. Happy Muse Day :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a bad joiner...I forget all the time. November is a gentle month with time to reflect and then give thanks.
ReplyDeleteBobbie... Oh, well. I'm thinking if I keep a good attitude, I'll get my work done yet! ha. :-) Happy Fall!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Month, Monica!! Last year, November was a Beautiful month! And it's always the reminder to be Thankful!! :-)
Hi Joey! I will wish your son a happy birthday too! Are you enjoying Fall? We actually had some breathtaking trees for viewing last week. I'm in Omaha right now (wish I could meet up with Sue, but perhaps Spring would be better circumstances). At any rate, I'm thinking that after I get a bit of raking done, I'll be ready for Winter!! ;-)
Dear Patsi, I agree with you about November. I find myself reflecting a lot these days... Happy November to you. :-)
Shady Gardener here... the comment above was under my son-in-law's address, ha!
ReplyDeleteI like your November muse but not the month :) A happy muse day to you. By the way could you please tell me the name of the daylily - it looks similar to one that I and a friend are trying to identify. She has given me a division but has lost the label. We would both love to know name of her plant.

ReplyDeleteYour take on this past years seasons ,spot on, love your outlook for Nov. If only we could get a few more pleasant days!
Hi Shady - November came in with gales, wind, rain and floods over here so to see the peace of your garden was lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteA great poem, Shady! You have expressed exactly how I feel this autumn. November looks more promising; perhaps we'll have time to finally finish all those fall garden projects!
ReplyDeleteEvery season has it's beauty...even the ones that give us a rest from the garden.
ReplyDeleteTime is getting on by for sure...
ReplyDeleteHi Anna! I can tell you the name of this daylily... 'Rosy Returns.' I'm kinda' proud about this, as I'm way out of town and not on my own computer! ;-) If you do a google search on this, you'll find a lot of information and more photos. Hope this helps!!
ReplyDeleteHi Rosemary, I'm having to chuckle because I'm in Omaha until my return on Wednesday. We're having wonderful weather here... I'm hoping so for the folks at home. However, I hope it remains for awhile because I have a LOT of raking to do! (and shredding and mulching, etc) :-) Happy November!!
Liz, It sounds like March over there! Here, we say if March comes in like a lion it goes out like a lamb, and visa versa. Perhaps your November will have some very pleasant days ahead!! I hope so.
Thank you, Rose. I appreciate your comments. I've not been always feeling so appreciative of the weather we've had... but I AM looking forward to days of being outdoors! :-)
Connie, sometimes it's EVEN those times away from the garden that provide a much-needed rest and freshness of perspective. Happy November!
Hi Darla. And how do you feel about that?
It's hard to believe it's November already. I don't mind it, we still have things looking pretty good with fall color. Lots of raking to do though :)
ReplyDeleteI always forget about Muse day. Maybe next time! Love your prose, you have a way with words!
ReplyDeleteI loved your spring and summer photos! Good idea for a post.
Rosey
I hope November finds you in the garden too Shady. It's hard to believe October is already gone but this year I'm glad to move forward. I have many fall chores waiting for me when I get time to go outside also. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for us both.
ReplyDeleteSince October was so Not October like...Maybe November will be more October like! I've been out planting bulbs...such fun! gail
ReplyDeleteHi Catherine, Would you please describe your typical Winter for me? I just envision your area as being fairly temperate. Tell me about how your deciduous trees act. Do they lose all their leaves for a period of time?
ReplyDeleteRosey, You are always so sweet with your comments... you can just head over here any time! ;-)
Hi Kathleen, Once I get home, I'll be watching to see what you're getting done, too. :-)
Gail, That's my hope! Glad you're out with the bulbs. I'm thinking that because I rather overdid it last year, I'm going to wait to see what things look like next Spring.
A fabulous retrospective on the year, K. I don't know where it all went either, but now we're into the planning season, which is always a good one.
ReplyDeleteHi Jodi, You are one of the gardeners that have very short summers... but you are also one that has much to enjoy! :-)
ReplyDeleteOkay, Shady, you've made me that more anxious for spring with those pretty blooms ;) BUT those bulbs do need their chilling time...yeah, that's what I'll tell myself..lol!
ReplyDeleteLynn, so we're all about "chillin" right now? ;-) Actually, I'm about ready to finish the outdoor chores and begin working on the Winter Projects that have been waiting a few months. Have a great day!
