Photo Friday
I Know... What's with the ugly pole??
These are the three best photos I've taken lately! I should throw the others away, but I cannot bring myself to do that quite yet. :-) Isn't this Fun??
Nice creatures, ugly pole. Unfortunately I've got one just like it. Used to be for a purple martin house, now its for the bird feeders too. I've even tried to grease it to keep the squirrels out. That didn't work either.
Great shots! I'm just now starting to get ruthless with less than wonderful photos. Keep only the best, it saves room on the hard drive. Also, destroying the evidence makes you appear to be a better photographer. I love the image of the squirrel - you can almost hear it thinking, "there's got to be a way to get at that birdseed."
Hi Rebecca, Blue jays are birds with Presence! ;-)
Rosemary, We have had a lot of snow. Some is starting to disappear... but I'm not worried. I know we'll get more! :-)
troutbirder - you made me laugh!! :-) The pole is ugly. Mr. Shady decided to help me out some. He turned things around, so now the pole is on the other side of the feeder. Yea!
Dave, Thanks! I'm still really learning about my camera. And I'm still on "Auto" mode. I really need to get the book out so I can learn to REALLY take photos! :-) (A winter project?)
Rose, You're actually ahead of me. I have my suet feeders out but nothing in them as yet! Hopefully I can rectify that situation shortly!!
Monica, You're too funny. I once attempted to paint that pole, thinking it would be less apparent against the white deck... oh, well.
Hi Joey! Thanks for the compliment on the poem... and that's exactly how I wrote it. In one "on fire" sitting! ;-)
Noelle, It's going to be hard to keep my camera from pointing out the window as long as there's any activity around the feeders! ha. I'll be posting more photos, but I have an idea we'll all be slowing down some over the next week or so? :-)
Randy! I just visited your site... it seems as though you've just had Plenty of inspiration!! Your photos are AWESOME! I guess that means I need to go outdoors, huh?
MMD, You're right. I will. :-) As for that squirrel, I'm wondering if perhaps he's had a lesson in trying to get at the birdseed that I missed? We have a Yankee Flipper. If you don't know what that is, do a google search. YOU will WANT one!! ha!
Catherine and Grace, Thanks! I'll keep working at this... I look at birds (especially) as Winter's Garden. :-)
Shady, I understand completely about tossing photos! The gray days make it hard to take good photos, but they are a record even if not our best. BUT I love these three (what pole) and the way the bluejay jumps out of the photo. Have a good week and the merriest of holidays. xxgail
Frances, Birds are the Winter-time flowers! :-) Merry Christmas!
Hi Gail! Merry Christmas!
Kate - Merry Christmas to you, too! Yep, those Blue Jays, Cardinals, Gold Finches (without their golden color), as well as a myriad of other birds are here all Winter! :-) It's wonderful.
Kathleen, Thank you. Your encouraging words mean a LOT! :-) I'll be watching for your Christmas posts.
My favorite is the bluejay. My gpa's middle name is jay, and his eyes are blue, so guess what his nickname is! And now my youngest alternates between Anna-banana and Anna-bird. I just won't think about how bluejays are considered too aggressive and pesky in most circles.
VW - I understand completely about the nature of Blue Jays. Hopefully your Grandpa was nicer that That!! ;-) Their redeeming feature is that they're photogenic... ha.
Hi Nutty Gnome!! I am so excited that your daughter is making these ornaments.... aren't they lovely? They make a cute gift, too. You are so welcome! I love being friends. :-) Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas, also.
Chad and Brandy, It has been cold... however today it was hovering around 33 degrees F and it was raining all day. (Actually a good thing, or we'd have had a TON of snow.) The forecast doesn't look very pleasant, either. But Christmas will be wonderful, no matter what happens! I hope your celebration/s are also safe and wonderful. :-)
Thank you for visiting today. I don't mean to make it hard for you to leave a message, but temporarily I am going to enable word verification. Too many spam messages to deal with lately. Thanks for your patience! SG
Great pictures, the falling snow is a nice touch. The jay is gorgeous, they are one of my favorite birds. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. You have a lot of snow!

ReplyDeleteNice pictures! Like like the one with the blue jay. The squirrel is cute though.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! I just noticed the suet in one feeder is all gone--I'd better go to the store or my usual visitors won't be coming back.
ReplyDeleteJust left a comment on your "Twas..." post--very clever; I loved it!
How do you know the nationality of the bird, HA! Seriously, the pole holds up the feeders, so no one's complaining! :)
ReplyDeleteAgree ... great photos, Shady! Loved your 'pen on fire' 17th of Dec poem :) Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteI just love your little visitors. Please post more photos of your friends.
ReplyDeleteShady,
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to get inspired during winter. Enjoyed these photos.

ReplyDeleteHi Catmint! :-) Thanks.
ReplyDeleteCute! I've got ugly poles too! LOL Your worst photos are better than my best. Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie, Mr. Shady turned my feeder... the pole's still there, but it's on the back side! ;-) Have a Safe Christmas season!
ReplyDeleteI love them Shady! Birds really keep us going throught the winter months. They look cold though!
ReplyDeleteFrances

ReplyDeleteHi, Shady, and Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute shot of that little squirrel. I didn't know blue jays stayed put for the winter....
Keep snapping away Shady Gardener ~ you are getting better and better photos all the time! It looks cold there. Merry Christmas too!

ReplyDeleteHi Shady - I love the photos, especially when combined with the blog snow!
ReplyDeleteI've set First-born the task of making a few of your hanging book ornaments ...and she's really enjoying doing it, so thanks for that!
Have a wonderful Christmas!

ReplyDeleteExcellent work. They look so cold. Keep those feeders full. Hope you and your family have a wonderful and safe Christmas.

ReplyDeleteI love the photos, and didn't even notice the pole until you pointed it out. That's called patina, don't you know? It adds character!
ReplyDeleteDid I say Merry Christmas?
Hi Sue... there you go! Why was I ever worried? ;-) Have a wonderful celebration.
