We Need Your Advice!

A friend of mine and I have been painting a whimsical mural
on a wall of our Church Nursery.

Here's the latest post... just click on the photo.

My question is...

if we don't cover the paint with something clear and scrub-able, the mural will wash off the wall!

What you YOU advise that we do??

Nothing shady here... just a little "shaky!" ;-)

  1. Shady,
You local paint store should have a clear coat of some kind, give them a try. It looks lovely BTW

  2. Yes you can clear coat it and they ought to offer a satin finish so it wouldn't shine. As about a coating that won't yellow!

    it's a delightful mural.

  3. Erect a bulletproof glass barrier in front of it. Just kidding - I 3d the opinions here, a non-yellowing sealer of some sort should do the trick.

  4. Lovely wall art.
    :)

When I am protecting wall paintings I use Polyvine Decorators Varnish.
This comes in satin, gloss or dead flat. I would recommend satin (for a dead flat finish, you have to use satin then cover it will dead flat and it is not as protective).

Unfortunately - this is quite expensive so I don't know if your Church would fund it. Although it may be cheaper with you than it is in the UK

Hope this is a starting point for you and you find something.
    Have a good weekend

PS - I have no affiliation with the company - its just what I use.

  7. Many thanks to each of you. Basically, those were my thoughts too. Karen, I'll check out your link! :-) I'm headed to the paint store(s) tomorrow morning. We'll see what they have to say.

And thanks for the compliments. We had such a fun time doing this!

  8. I was thinking the same thing, Shady. If it were me, I'd ask the paint store staff. They know about these things. You're a multi talented gal. The painting is sweet and the kiddos will love it.

  9. Hi Grace! This was a fun mural. We definitely need to get the wall coated. I've had a lead on a product by Miniwax. Will be checking it out. :-)

  10. Hi Shady - the finished mural looks really great now and the children will love it!

I was going to suggest Polyvine Decorators Varnish in a satin finish, but I see that Karen has already beaten me to it!

Hope you're having a great weekend and that it's not as wet there as it is here! :)

  11. Hi Nutty Gnome, I've just waiting for you to come help us! ;-)

Thanks for being prepared with the tip. I looked up Polyvine on the internet... I think it's not available in the US?? At any rate, the Miniwax product sounded very much the same, and I can find it easily here.

It's not wet here, but it's been very cold and the forecast is SNOW. I'm ready!!! :-) I want to watch it fall out the window tomorrow and play Christmas carols!!
