Color combos? Bright green hosta, two-toned ajuga, and this cute sedum (for which I have no name).
'Tojen'
'Taipei Silk' with unnamed hosta
'Red October' Hosta - the last to bloom here.
"from seed" ligularia from Jim Groble
(a two-liter bottle fits into this cone for watering when necessary)
That toad lily is something special. Strange name for such a beautiful flower though. :)
ReplyDeleteHi troutbirder, They're actually very easy to grow - and they love shade. They'd love it at your place! :-)
ReplyDeleteI've never tried growing toad lilies. I don't have much shade, either. Yours sure are pretty. My September Charm anemones have about 2 blooms open so far. They should look like yours in a few days.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a waterer like that. It's cool!
Hi Shady, Yes it looks like Vera to me. Don't you love it?
ReplyDeleteYour toad lilies and anemones are delightful.
Shady, your garden is looking so good. So much still in flower. Love Anemones.. mine coming into flower...Cute litte whimsy with the chairs . Trout lilies add orchidlike beauty to the garden.
ReplyDeleteI have some seeds to share. Red Hopi amaranthus and perennial summer hibiscus if you would like either.
All looks lovely, Shady. My anemone are going strong too and you have reminded me, I must shoot my toad lilies!
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, If you had shade, you'd like these tricyrtis! :-) I found these waterers in an on-line gardening catalog.
ReplyDeleteGrace, Thanks! I'm going to call her Vera because I've not found anything else that comes close to resembling this sedum. :-) Do you have a new photo? Nice!
Rosemary, I've been reading about the amaranthus... do you eat the leaves (sounds like they're great!)? Do they grow 5' tall for you? I might like to try them in a 1/2 sunny spot! Thanks! Your seeds will be in the mail tomorrow.
Hi Joey? Shoot your toad lilies?? hmmmmm. Will you be using the flowers on one of your special dessert concoctions? ;-)
ReplyDeleteHi again Shady, I do enjoy seeing the things that grow in your garden… pretty well by the looks of things too ;-)
ReplyDeleteI am also a fan of Hostas and Anemone but every year I see images like yours of toad lilies in blogs and I say the same thing… maybe next year ;-)
Hi Shirl, It's always something to remember, isn't it? Do you have an ongoing "wish list?" Pencil them in! :-)
ReplyDeleteI like the toad lilies. The September Charms anemone look so attractive. I've debated about trying some of the fall blooming anemone, but I'm never sure if they would get much bloom time before things start getting too cold here. Do they bloom after the first frosts for you still?
