Be Still My Beating Heart!

The first of my 10 amarylis has decided to venture out of its sleepiness!
I will continue to breathe on the others!
:-)

----------------------

Also center-stage, is my second-time-blooming Christmas cactus.
The first time it bloomed (heavily!) was December 2008.

  3. Glad to see your amarylis is waking up! I can't get a Christmas cactus to bloom once let alone twice!!

  4. I had to laugh when I saw your up close of the amaryllis. I just spent twenty minutes trying to invent a way to keep the darn things from falling over. Finally I put the whole blooming bulb in a mason jar. Still a bit top heavy but better than lying prostrate on the dining room table.

Somehow I missed the sedum photos. Gorgeous!!! They make me so hungry for spring.

    Nice Christmas cactus too.

  5. Hi Patsi, I've seen so many photos lately of peoples' amaryllis plants!! I just couldn't help being excited about the little nubbin' that's showing here! ;-)

Cameron, I hope you're right! This is one of the $1 bonus plants I purchased a year ago after Christmas. Last Summer the bulb spent a lot of time growing larger! :-)

Catherine, My mother-in-law used to set her Christmas cactus outdoors in the SUN! I've never been that brave. Mine gets a little bit of sun, but mostly shade all summer. :-)

Grace, I can hardly wait until I have YOUR problem! ha. Want to post a photo? ;-) I know... I've been going through so many of last year's photos(organizing) that I'm getting kind of excited about Spring myself!! Do you have varieties of Sedum?

  6. Hi Shady,
Just a quick drive by here (work and having the flu have been killing me lately here!), but wanted to thank you for the reminder that we need to get our amaryllis out of the basement and upstairs and growing again! I hope yours rewards you richly soon, and be sure to post pictures when it blooms!

  8. Hooray! They sure are taking their sweet time aren't they? But now you'll see results pretty quick from this one at least! You and Christmas cactus speak the same language. Its foreign to me and I just can't seem to learn it. I'll have to visit your blog to see them in bloom.

  11. Hope is what gardening is all about, and a little sprouting nub makes a whole lot of hope. It's kind of cute.

  12. Congratulations on your amaryllis leaf. I'm hoping mine might bloom in the next week or two. The photo is awesome, btw. The bulb looks so woody and HARRR! and the leaf so fragile and soft and lovely.

  13. Kathleen, If you remember to send me Queen of the Prairie plant, I'll send you rooted Christmas Cactus pieces from my plants! :-) (It might be worth a try!)

Gail, You are a sweetie. I'm glad you were able to try a houseplant, after all!! And, how has your cat done?

Hi Deb!! I know! I'm looking forward to the blooms, too!! I should have the problem Grace Peterson had (see above!) ha.

MMD, It IS kinda cute, isn't it? ;-) If you've read other comments I've written, I just keep heading for the basement storage room where the others are... looking them over and breathing on them every day. I figure they might like that!! (A little extra carbon dioxide. Perhaps I should be visiting with them a little more?) ha. How are you coming with the Spring Fling plans? Will you be coming out to Iowa to get me? ha!

Monica, In real life, that little sprout is very tiny! It's just that I got Very Close with my camera! :-) It is a pretty good contrast. Thanks for pointing it out!
