And walking a bit down memory lane.
This is my sister's tree.
It had been just recently planted when this photo was taken June 20, 2007.
These are 'Lady Sheila Ann Germaney Iris' early Spring Iris bulb plantings. These were flowering April 6, 2008 around the tree. Daffodils bloomed later.

I was sure the tree was outdoing itself!

What a beautiful, joyous memorial - and amazing blossom :) Something to lookforward to and enjoy over several months.
ReplyDeleteDear Shady, (((You))) from me....I know you are fine but I wanted to send a hug anyway! It's a beautiful tree and will grow more lovely each year...gail
ReplyDeleteEB, It is a treasured memorial. And you're right. It represents anticipation of the future, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteGail, Thank you for the hug. I am fine, and I so appreciate you! :-)
Planting a tree is a great way to memorialize a loved one. A few years from now it will tower, produce shade and fruit (I think. Is it a pear tree?) and lots and lots of oxygen and you'll always think of your sister. I love it.
ReplyDeleteHi Grace, Thank you for your kind words and thoughts! :-) My faux pas! It's a flowering crab apple. Malus 'Sargentii.' One of my neighbor-friends planted the same variety of tree the Spring before in honor of her mother. We thought that was a great "sign."
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful tree. I think it's great to have a pretty tree to remind you of someone as special as your sister!
ReplyDeleteShady, It is great to see how your tree has grown. It is a lovely way to commemorate your super gardening sister.
ReplyDeleteTransatlantic hug

White blooms are sooo pretty.
ReplyDeleteI bet you'll have some great colors come this spring.
Catherine, It is a beautiful tree. It feeds the birds in the Winter and it is such a nice way to commemorate my sister's life. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen. Hugs are always good! And a transatlantic one is a huge one! :-)
Patsi, We'll be ready for Spring, won't we? And we'll be watching each other! :-)
What a lovely way to bear witness to your sister's life. My sister died 12 years ago after an accident and we didn't do anything to commemorate her as I wasn't into gardening at that point and my mum (- the original Mad Gnome gardener)had died a couple of years before, so there was no-one to guide us.
ReplyDeleteYour post has made me want to plant trees to both these very special people - so I'm off to look/drool at tree catalogues for inspiration. Thank you so much - and big hugs from me.
Yes, it is that time of year when we look backward and forward. It isn't too much fun to just look outside now.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful memorial. Such a great way to have a lasting tribute.
ReplyDeleteNG, I'm so happy you're being inspired to think about living memorials for both your mom and sister. Hugs back! :-)
ReplyDeleteLisa, You're right! :-)
Chad and Brandy, Thank you. and Thanks for visiting. :-)
I believe that is so special. Nice photos!
ReplyDeleteNice pics and a wonderful story to go with.
ReplyDeleteIndeed a fine tribute and memory. Sadly I have done this twice.
ReplyDeleteDarla, Thanks for your visit.
ReplyDeleteIGW, Thank you.
troutbirder, I'm sorry. But the memory is very nice, is it not?
Hi Shady, here is another (((big hug))) from me too. I can think of no other memorial more wonderful than the planting of a tree. This crabapple is a beauty.
ReplyDeleteFrances
Hi Frances, thank you for the big hug! Hugs are always appreciated, especially in this case. :-) I just found another photo, so I'm going to add it to the collection, here!
ReplyDeleteSo nice to witness the progress of this lovely memorial... what an abundance of blooms. Thank you for sharing this remembrance. /Deb
ReplyDeleteHi Deb! It was good to take the photos during the year, but it was even better to gather them together. :-)
