This is my sister's tree.
It had been just recently planted when this photo was taken June 20, 2007.
These are 'Lady Sheila Ann Germaney Iris' early Spring Iris bulb plantings.These were flowering April 6, 2008 around the tree. Daffodils bloomed later.

Planting a tree is a great way to memorialize a loved one. A few years from now it will tower, produce shade and fruit (I think. Is it a pear tree?) and lots and lots of oxygen and you'll always think of your sister. I love it.
ReplyDeleteHi Grace, Thank you for your kind words and thoughts! :-) My faux pas! It's a flowering crab apple. Malus 'Sargentii.' One of my neighbor-friends planted the same variety of tree the Spring before in honor of her mother. We thought that was a great "sign."

What a lovely way to bear witness to your sister's life. My sister died 12 years ago after an accident and we didn't do anything to commemorate her as I wasn't into gardening at that point and my mum (- the original Mad Gnome gardener)had died a couple of years before, so there was no-one to guide us.
