  1. Your astilbe garden is glorious! What's growing behind it? The sedum is great. I'm just starting to get more interested in sedums. Deer will eat the blooms, so I backed off of them for several years, but now I'm trying a few inside the cottage garden fence.

  3. Wow, your astilbe is gorgeous! I have that little yellow sedum (it was here when I bought my house) Do you know the name? Mine is blooming now too. However, my hostas are no where near ready to bloom. Your garden has jumped way ahead of mine! Happy Bloom Day Shady Gardener!

  6. I love Allium cerulium and grew it in my old garden. It's a neat plant. I'm envious of your lush stand of Astilbe. Only in my dreams would it ever look like that in my garden.

  7. Cameron, behind the Astilbe is a stand of evergreen similar to arbivitae. I'll find a better photo for you. :-)

Hi Monica, There's just too much to mention in that Sunny Corner Bed. ;-) I love Russian Sage, too!

Kathleen,I may not know what that sedum is... I have purchased, and inherited, quite a number of varieties of the low-growing types. But, if I can just locate my little book of maps (!), I'll see if I have it listed. :-)

Hi Catherine! I'm not sure I can say that Allium repel moles... I Know they don't repel those pesky little striped gophers! ha?

Lisa, I cannot take credit for it. I believe it's a product of the wonderful rainfall we had last year and the cool, rainy Spring we've enjoyed this year. Age has a lot to do with the fullness of plants, too, though.

MMD, I'm still trying to figure a way to head to Chicago to visit you sometime this Summer... perhaps I could dig up a portion for you? Our plants do get a good dose of moisture, as we're on the downside of a fairly steep incline. The beds collect and hold moisture (there's a lot of clay there, too!). I could bring you a load of clay!! ;-)

  9. Rosemary, This is one plant I didn't purchase, as it was here when we moved in. I've planted many more varieties of astilbe, and they're all becoming more "mature." But not nearly so wonderful as these, yet.

  10. Your garden is really filling out. The hosta looks great, our is just starting to bloom. I kinda like the sedum also, we might have to add it to our yard.

  12. Shady, Good evening! I've ordered my bulbs...well some of them and included Allium cerulium...I am very excited! I wish I could grow astilbe...it has the best lacy foliage and pretty plumes. Sigh! ...and while I am wishing, I want to be able o grow hosta! There I've said it! Now don't tell the native plants my wish! gail

  13. Chad and Brandy, I think you'd really like sedum. There are so many varieties. I'm usually a person that likes to know the names of plants, but those sedum... I've lost a lot of tags on those little ones. ;-)

Rosey, Don't be envious. Just visit often! :-)

Gail, Hi! Oh, good. You'll love the allium. Is there not a place you could place astilbe?? And could you not find a place (around a secret corner??) for a hosta or two?? ;-) I'm not breathing a word, though! ha!

  14. I see we both have white astilibe. There's no accounting for good taste :-)

    Lovely June blooms, Shady.

  15. Hi Carolyn! Good taste, for sure! ;-)

Thanks for visiting. Are you recouping after Spring Fling??

  16. Thanks for the glimpse of late spring! I see everything continues to be lush, out there in "Shady Country!"

We're finally getting some significant rainfall, but mostly cool, cloudy, drizzly weather... the whole month, so far! I saw the sun on Tuesday, when it warmed up to 64ยบ. One can only imagine what fungus problems await us, in the no-too-distant future. /Deb

  17. The blooms are pretty enough, but you've got some great color and texture going in the foliage here! Beautiful!
