This is such a fun, late-blooming flower!
Can you tell how it gets its name??

It really does look like a turtle head! What an adorable bloom. Judging by your header photo, your shady garden is doing very, very well!
ReplyDeleteI love the Turtleheads, one of my most colorful flowers now blooming.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely color! I have never EVEN seen or heard of this plant. Which rock do I live under?
ReplyDeleteRosey
I love Chelone, the flower form & the color. I still don't have any, I'm not sure if they'd be happy here, but I can imagine such great plant combos with them.
ReplyDeleteNancy, The summer weather here has been quite cool, rainy and wonderful for the most part. We completely missed the hot 100degree days and dormant grass. Yep, things pretty much look great around here.
ReplyDeleteCatherine, And you have a lot of color blooming these days!
Hi Rosey! ha! No rock - I found this plant, quite by accident, a few years ago. It's made a nice clump!! You'd like it.
MMD, I'm convinced you could grow this plant! I have it in quite a shady spot with only bright light/dappled sunlight. It's made such a nice "clump" these past few years!
I have a few of these blooming now too. Lovely. Happy GBBD.
ReplyDeleteAnother lovely shade garden plant Shady! Your garden must be lush right now! gail
ReplyDeleteLisa, I look forward to these. :-)
ReplyDeleteGail, Hmmmm. It looks good but not so lush. It's starting to look "old" in some areas and tired in others. It's very dry right now. I've dumped a 5 gallon bucket of water here and there and the water rarely runs anywhere except that it soaks Right into the ground!
I've never grown these. It looks like there are lots of the blooms in the background. Pretty!
ReplyDeleteSue, These are yet another easy-to-grow perennial that pretty much cares for itself. :-) It can handle dry weather for quite awhile, as well. You are catching the fast fading rudbeckia in the background.
ReplyDeleteOne of my mother's favs, I've never grown Turtleheads.
ReplyDeleteHappy Bloom Day, a bit late. I had server problems.
Nell Jean, Thanks for your visit! It doesn't matter about lateness - even when you're posting! ;-)
ReplyDeleteIn my fairly shady spot, they're doing very well.
That's great! It sure does look like a turtle's head!
ReplyDeleteHi Kylee, If you don't have this plant, you would love it! Very care-free. I shared a few plants with friends in their mostly sunny spot this summer. They're doing very well!
