Birds of a Feather?

May or May Not . . .

(Why is this robin still here???)

... on Barbie's tree ...

It seems, like me, he has a sweet tooth!
(At least he has something to eat!)

Nervous Nellie...

. . . Flock together . . .

Three goldfinches (losing their summer golden color),
one male, purple finch, and one cardinal

Barbie's tree with a junco (upper center), the robin (lower left),
and a northern flicker (on trunk), and red-bellied woodpecker on suet.

The arrival of the bluejay (to the right) sent the junco and robbin scurrying. The flicker is now on the left and the red-bellied woodpecker is now on the trunk.

Last, but never least, the arrival of a second bluejay and a downy woodpecker (on the suet)
rounds out the activity observed within a one-minute's time span!

All taken within about five minutes' time January 7th.

  3. This overwintering robins are hard to figure. Maybe this one lost his portable GPS. In spite of a hard winter, so far, I've never had so many birds at my backyard feeders. Go figure?

  4. troutbirder, Do you have a robin overwintering?? We're having quite the large number of birds, also. A good variety... esp. considering I don't usually seen Purple Finches until closer to Spring.

  6. Shady,

That robin must had found plenty of berries to stick around there. We see them here all year round.

  7. Oh, those birds make me cold just looking at them! When we visited California, we thought we must have seen all the birds that left our town for the winter. I'm thinking that being a snowbird sounds really good - someday I'll be in Arizona all winter :-)

  9. Whoa - nice collection of birds; especially envious of the flicker & woodpeckers attracted to your suet. Have never gotten any at mine (though plenty of Bewick's & Carolina Wrens).

  10. Hi all, I'm sorry I haven't responded to the rest of you personally... I'm sure it's not because I haven't had time!! ;-) We're having a great time around here - watching the birds!

  11. Great bird photos! I especially like the one with the cardinal peeking around to gaze at the jay, or that's what it looks like is happening. What a great setting to 'capture' the wildlife there!

  12. Aerie-el, That's exactly what's happening. The cardinal cannot handle not knowing what's going on... even at the expense of not eating! ;-) It's cute to watch.
