A Peek Over the Shoulder...

...at the inspiration that fostered a couple more projects!

First, a glance back at the gingerbread house my friend and I decorated
as a fund-raising project for the local Art Association.

My mother and I decorated this one during our
Christmas visit.

These little houses were decorated by
two of our grandchildren.

These little houses were decorated by our other three grandchildren.

Happy New Year!!!

  1. What gingerbread artists you all are! They are so fun to decorate, my youngest had a blast decorating hers. Did you make them from scratch? We cheated and used a kit.

  2. Hi Catherine, We did make them from scratch... it wasn't hard. I'd visited the Martha Stewart website and used her gingerbread house recipe as well as the royal frosting. :-) Will you post photos of your creations?

  6. Shady,

Guess I'd be no help building these houses. My sweet tooth would slow progress considerably. Cute all of them.

  11. That looks like so much fun! Many years ago a friend organized a gingerbread house building afternoon for adults. We all sat on the floor (I could then) and laughed and laughed. gail

  12. Wow, look at all your different houses. I've never even decorated one and you have so much experience. They all look great. Your grandkids look so cute too!

  13. What a great job on all the gingerbread houses! I tried making one long ago, and it was a complete disaster:) But my favorites are the grandkids'--the smiles on their faces show what a great time they had making these.

  14. Randy, I have a terrible sweet tooth, also... but most of these things would not appeal... ;-)

    Happy New Year, Jim.

MMD, I agree. My mom has decided to try storing hers until next year. Hope it works for her!

Hi Darla, As long as no one inspects, and the curb appeal is good... we'll let it pass. ;-)

Liz, Happy New Year to you, too!!

Rosemary, I think YOU would enjoy doing this very much!! I'll watch for your progress next year. :-)

What a great idea, Gail! Did you use real gingerbread forms or did you make mini-graham cracker squares? I can imagine you had a great time!!!

Kathleen - the first one I'd ever decorated in my life was the one with the pink roof. YOU would be top-notch at this endeavor! :-)

Rose, I want to see if you have posted photos of your grandchildrens' houses!! :-)

  15. Oh my goodness, I LOVE that last photo! Such enthusiasm in those faces! And what fun for them, and YOU! Great gingerbreads! I've only ever made one and it's in my china cabinet. I'm afraid to move it for fear it will fall apart!

  16. Hi Kylee, My mom has put hers away in hopes it will be okay for next year. After all this, I don't have one of my own. ;-) Perhaps next year. It was a fun project, though!
