Traditionally called "Christmas Cactus,"
these are photos of plants I've had for a few years.
But before I go any further, you Truly should visit Mr. Brown Thumb. Click on this link to see his most recent post on Christmas Cactus vs Thanksgiving Cactus, and how to tell the difference!!
He's the most "Expert Expert" on this subject I know. :-)

These photos were taken in 2009 and have gotten much larger.
But bigger is not always better . . .
so I thought I'd bring home another one!

They are such beautiful flowers. My aunt had one, I remember it taking up the whole living room window. Must have been really old.
ReplyDeleteIt must have been, Muffy! Mine usually make it outdoors in a bright, mostly shady spot. It didn't happen this year, and they're still blooming beautifully. I think it takes a lot "out" of them, though.
ReplyDeleteShady,
ReplyDeleteHave I ever pulled your leg? Ok better not answer that. Yes 5 hellebores blooms on Ivory Prince right now. Does Brown Thumb discuss the Easter Cactus too? We have a lavender Christmas Cactus busting with blooms right now.
Hi Randy! :-) So, how healthy does your cactus look when it's blooming so heartily? Mine looks a little peak-ed.
ReplyDeleteShady,
ReplyDeleteOur cactus is in a 10 inch pot overflowing with foliage and flowers it does not look stressed, you might need to re pot yours. We put ours outside during the warmer weather and bring it in before frost comes.
I think you're right about the repotting, Randy! I've been suspecting that was the issue.
ReplyDeleteLove Xmas cactus
ReplyDeleteYour new cactus is gorgeous SG! You seem to have good luck with them so I bet this one will do well too.
ReplyDeleteHope all is well with you...
