Green Thumb Sunday - August 29, 2010

Just a little drumroll...

not a lot of fanfare...

Thought you might like to see a few of what's blooming around here today.

'Fanfare' gailllardia

Chelone oblique - 'Turtlehead'

Susie Scare-the-birds with her flower baskets.

a blurry photo of Rudbekia 'Goldsturm'

One planter created by Mr. Shady and . . .

. . . the second planter . . .

Do your impatiens re-seed?
This is only One of the places where they decided to add a sweet surprise to my life!

Gerbera Daisy

'Seiryu' Toad Lily

'Blue Wonder' Toad Lily

Another photo of 'Quickfire' Hydrangea

'Diamond Edge' Sedum with volunteer impatiens

I've been advertising a special broadcast by PBS' "Sid the Science Kid." There are seven upcoming episodes to be broadcast in honor of grandparents. Please check back here on September 1st. I've prepared a little "commercial message" in honor of these episodes. (Also in honor of grandparents, of whom I am one, and parents everywhere.)

Perhaps, after you read this post, you will help advertise this series? And perhaps you will enter this little give-away by PBS personnel?

Have a wonderful day!

Oh, the joy of it!

So utterly lovely.

Especially your garden help with the two baskets. And self seeding impatiens. I get selfsown groundsel :-)
Green thumb alright.

Hi SG, Poor Man's Orchid will reseed in my garden and since it's officially an Impatiens species I would have to answer in the affirmative. I however, haven't for several years now, grown the smaller types that you're writing about. I think it's great that they reseed. What a fun serendipity.

Grandparenting hasn't entered my arena quite yet but I know I'll enjoy it when it happens. I know I've mellowed a lot since the years when I was a young mother trying to do it all.

Nice planters and flowers, especially the bright pink Gerbera. Susie is adorable. I love that she's holding baskets of flowers. Very clever.

Your blog is always so fun. My apologies for being away so long.

I adore trout lilies! The 'Fanfare' gaillardia are nice, too. And you remind me I need to go snap a pic of my turtlehead! :)

You have lots of pretty flowers blooming now. I really love the Toad lilies. I remember them from last year and you inspired me to try them again. So far we've added two. I wish my impatiens would reseed, they never have here.
My little one has watched Sid a few times. I'll have to check to see when those episodes are on here.

Your Quick Fire hydrangea is interesting - never seen that one before. We get impatiens each season and yes the re-seed, and are always tiny things.

Self-seeded impatiens are great, but they sometimes mess up a perfectly crafted color palette... but who could stand to pull them! L

Beautiful post Shady, you still have so much going on. Love your quickfire, and the turtlehead really does look like a turtle's head! Are Gerbs perennial for you? They are such a lovely, happy flower. :)

I absolutely adore
Susie Scare-the-Birds. Did you give birth to this darling feature? She's so cute I can just imagine the birds perching on her and singing songs of delight!

Hi Jo! Thanks for your visit and comments. :-)

Grace, It's probably the fact that I've been terribly inactive this past month or so... don't worry. I'm trying to catch up, too. :-)

Hi Monica! Snap away... I'll watch for your post. ha.

Hi Catherine, thanks for the visit. I wonder if Sid won't have some interesting activities? I hope I can catch a glimpse myself!

Jeff, How nice that you visited today. Quickfire is really pretty... did you see that the blossoms begin in early spring as Bright White flowers? It has been fun to watch them change over the summer.

LC, YOU have a perfectly crafted color palette... I'm not sure I will ever qualify in that realm. ha!?

Hi Rebecca, This Gerb has done better for me than one has ever done before. Perhaps I found the "right combination?" No, they're definitely not perennial here... but wouldn't it be nice?

Know a grandma &/or grandpa? Check back here Sept. 1. :-)

Hello Meredehuit! Thank you for visiting today! I'll have to run to your place. Yes, I created Susan. She's very cute out there... and is able to remain outdoors all summer! You might click on the photo on the upper right sidebar to see a little more on this subject. ha.

Hi Troutbirder! Glad to see you again! I've enjoyed my little blog-vacation. :-)

You have some nice blooms there. I had a row of impatiens reseed between my hostas last year, and did very well. This year, none returned.
