Wildflower Wednesday; Phlox divaricata laphamii
This woodland phlox warms the cockles of my heart every spring! And it is spreading around in the flower beds (and in the back yard!!) Love!!
Now, I have just noticed the dandilion. He's free and very photogenic. You might want to know what I do with these fellows!
About 5 years ago, I began using black trash bags to put the weeds, clippings (things not going into my compost pile), etc., etc. I put them in a fairly sunny area (pretty much out of sight) and turn the bags over once in awhile. It doesn't take too long - a year or two? and I have a bag of "black gold - compost!" The seeds in there get cooked and become inactive. hurrah!
Happy Spring!!

ABC Wednesday - W is for Wow! and Wildflower Wednesday
ABC Wednesday? The word is WOW! :-) (I took the photo, all by myself! lol)
Wildflower Wednesday is a nod to Gail of Clay and Limestone. This meme takes place on the 4th Wednesday of the month. Yep, I'm a little early, but I wanted to share my Pollinator on Salvia 'May Night!' :-)

Wildflower Wednesday turns into Tardy Thursday!!
How long has it been since you visited Clay and Limestone? Gail is a fun gardener and blogger and began this meme "awhile back!" You should click the blossom below to visit her site. You'll find many bloggers participating in this meme. Visit their sites! You may be inspired to create a post, too. :-)
As for me, I'm featuring a photo of part of my growing "collection" of
Dutchman's Breeches!
Dicentra
cucullaria
(photo taken April 21, 2013)
Perhaps you can tell their diminutive size by the oak leaf on the ground.
Their preference is dappled sunlight of
woodlands, in a fertile loamy soil with abundant organic
matter. This plant develops early and can resist moderate frost without
damage.
The
nectar of the flowers attracts long-tongued bees primarily, including
bumblebees, Mason bees, Miner bees.
The following photos of this "same" collection were taken April 21, 2008
Aren't they so sweet?

ABC Wednesday - O; and Wildflower Wednesday
Also posting to Wildflower Wednesday
(Visit Gail at Clay and Limestone)
Open Mouth and Insert Foot!
I admit it! I'm guilty of asking and praying for rain!
We've had two years of very dry - drought conditions, and I just didn't want it to happen again!
Besides, there was just no moisture, last Fall, anywhere deep "down there!"
By all accounts, we've received between 6 to 7" of rain last week alone.
Yes, there was flooding.

But the grass has riz', early flowers are blooming (including the Dutchman's Breeches in the header photo),
and these grape hyacinths in the grass!
A Treat Ode
by James Whitcomb Riley
"Scurious-like," said the treetoad,
"I've twittered fer rain all day;
And I got up soon,
And hollered till noon ---
But the sun hit blazed away,
Till I jest clumb down in a crawfish-hole
Weary at heart, and sick at soul!
"Dozed away fer an hour,
And I tackled the thing agin;
And I sung, and sung,
Till I knowed my lung
Was jest about to give in;
and then, thinks I ef it don't rain now,
There're nothin' in singin' anyhow!
"Once in awhile some farmer
Would come a driven' past;
And he'd hear my cry,
And stop and sigh ---
Till I jest laid back, at last,
And I hollered rain till I thought my throat
Would bust wide open at ever' note!
"But I fetched her! --- O I fetched her! ---
'Cause a little while ago,
As I kindo' set
With one eye het,
And a-singing' soft and low,
A voice drapped down on my fevered brain
Sayin', 'Ef you'll jest hush I'll rain!' "

I have my work cut out for me this Spring! Walkway, steps, water feature, reconfigure large flower bed,
add black dirt, add hardwood mulch, plantings, etc., etc.
Want to come help me???

Wildflower Wednesday!
I found a Virginia Bluebell! Mertensia virginica.
I haven't yet raked the leaves from the beds... we have a cold, perhaps snowy weekend forecast. However - SPRING is on its way. Just look at that little plant!
