Meet Clara

Is This Clara?

No, this is one of Clara's daughters.
My mom owns this violet.
Clara is the name of a violet owned by one of my mom's friends.
The violet is named after her friend's mother,
who first owned the violet.
Clara is over 30 years old!

Isn't she beautiful?

Meet Clara's granddaughter.
She's presently in the Nursery,
in my living room.

Won't it be fun to have Clara III here in my home?

As an aside:
I spent an extended weekend at with my parents
in north central Iowa a week or so ago.
This is a photo of what I saw alongside the interstate
as I drove north.

I stopped, on the way, to visit my Aunt MEA.
This is a photo of her front step.
She is thankful for nice friends and neighbors
that move the snow for her!

Green Thumb Sunday

I absolutely, positively was going to have something blooming today! So. Is it cheating to purchase a plant on a "balmy" Winter's Saturday afternoon and suddenly notice, not until I'd brought it home of course, that it was blooming? ha.

My new African Violet.
My mother is very good at raising these (and propagating them).
I could have waited to get one of hers. But
if I give her a leaf from my plant,
perhaps she'll start a new plant for me
from one of hers.

Maybe I'd better wait to see how my violet fares
in its new location. :-)


Now, you've seen my hibiscus before...
but just look at the number of buds it has.
I'll be enjoying its blossoms for awhile, yet.

It was several degrees below zero F. this morning. And it's breezy outdoors. So, even though it's sunny, it's bitterly cold! Brrrr. Think I'll go water my plants.

No shade today.

My Mom has a Very Green Thumb!

Last weekend I traveled 4 hours north of here (Clear Lake, Iowa), where it was suitably more cold and wintery, to visit my parents for a couple of days. This next photo shows one sight I relished! Walking into their little sun room where, no matter the temperature outdoors, I found it was certainly balmy indoors! Thought I'd share this pleasurable sight. :-)


Now. Wasn't that satisfying? ;-) Pull up a chair and enjoy a nice warm cup of tea, cocoa, or chai. Put your feet up and smile at that fella across the room. This is a little slice of heaven.
