Burkwood Viburnum "Mohawk"

As mentioned in my previous post,
I located the original landscaping blueprint.
This is a Burkwood Viburnum "Mohawk."
Read about it here.

Its aroma is heady!

The flowers are gorgeous!
And the birds love it!
They also love it in the Winter as it's a "hideaway"
and roost for those visiting the birdfeeders. :-)
(That's where I can get great photos,
right through the front door!)

And I can't just end this post...
I should, but I won't.
This is what happened
around here this morning!

With my 3x magnification, this
is the best I could do... I've had
two Baltimore Orioles here these
past two days!
AND this morning, there was also an Indigo Bunting picking through the fallen seeds with the other ground birds. Yea!

Now, you'll have to suffer through my "blow-by-blow" description, as I was taking this video while on the telephone with my dad. This is the Yankee "Flipper" feeder our daughter and son-in-law gave us for Christmas. It's also the closest we've gotten, so far, to see how it deals with squirrels. I hope to post an update before too long! (But, that means I have to catch a squirrel in action!) ;-)

How sad that we gardeners actually find watching squirrels being thwarted "exciting." :^) I was disappointed that the squirrel gave up. If your results with that feeder are good, I will have to get one, as the squirrels have foiled every feeder I've tried. How wonderful that you had both Baltimore Orioles & Indigo Buntings visit. Viburnum 'Mohawk' is on the short list of possibilities for my new front garden. Does it have good fall color?

The 'Mowhawk' Viburnum is so beautiful! I wish I could grow it but there's a worm in our area that chews viburnums to shreds. I guess I'll have to live vicariously and share yours over the Internet!

Mark, It works for me! :-) I hope it does well for you!

Hi Gail, I'm glad you have one and enjoy it (how can you NOT!) ;-) Does yours get very much sun? Mine is in a pretty shady spot... except in early spring before the shade trees sprout leaves.

MMD, I was thinking about you today as I was raking the beds once more. I thought you'd really like this bush. Mine is in a pretty shady spot, so it doesn't probably get the Fall color that it would if had more sun. But my vote is that you should get it. It is so aromatic that you can smell it across the yard!!!

dk, What a pity about your not being able to have viburnums! If only we could make a post "smell!" ;-) Check back whenever you want!

You're lucky to have found the blueprints -our previous owners left us with no information. I have 3 fragrant viburnums in my front yard and as far as I can tell they ost closely resemble Judd Viburnums and their fragrant is heavenly as you walk through them, I wish it would last all spring!

Shady,

Hope you catch that squirrel in action - I'm curious to see what happens!

The photo of your viburnum is awesome. Isn't it neat how white flowers form from red buds?

Rosemarie, I AM lucky! There are many types of viburnum, aren't there? :-)

Cathy, I'd love to think I'll catch him, but I'm not standing by the window very often these days! I took a walk around town with a friend today. We admired the Variety of flowering trees!

Well, it looks like Mr. Squirrels plans were foiled this time.

Hi Lisa,
So far... ;-)

Iowa gw,
Hi! Thanks for stopping by! I see there are other viburnums planted here, but they are in way too much shade and aren't doing well. :-(

Mmmm... I can almost smell the viburnum from the east coast. I had V. carlesii (Korean spice/Mayflower) for years. My dad, who was blind later in life, would always know when it was starting to bloom from the heavenly fragrance. I love your Burkwood - the photos are beautiful!
Nice squirrel adventure. We'll be waiting for the sequel.....Deb

Deb, Should I ever be blind in my lifetime on this earth, I can't think of anything sweeter or nicer than spending time enjoying that wonderful fragrance! :-)
