Gingerbread (house recipe) bases
One layer finished on one feeder...
Melted lard and peanut butter (making a suet base)
Four feeders each have one layer . . .
Gotta have some house shapes . . .
Second layer and trimmings
A drizzle of additional suet,
and they're ready to be lightly wrapped in parchment paper
and placed in gift bags.
It's a little messy, but it was fun.

Those are so cute! The bases are from a gingerbread house recipe? How did you get the holes in them? I'd have them breaking apart.

Sue - I used my power drill (very lightly) to make the holes. lol. And the word verification: divit! :-)

Very cool! The birds would love these! Our birds are very busy at the feeders these days.
These are so cute, Shady! Last year I made some pinecones rolled in peanut butter/suet and covered with birdseed, but I really like these. I've been looking for a project to do with the grandkids--they love anything messy:) I wonder if there's some way to make the holes as they bake?

Randy, our birds are plentiful right now, too. :-) They say if you start the feeders early, the birds will find their feeding pattern early!
Hi Rose, I've done the pinecone project, too. Also, last year we used tongue depressers smeared with peanut butter and dipped in birdseed. (Depressers were pre-drilled and twine was threaded through before "decorating.")

How sweet and thoughtful for our feathered friends Shady. My contribution is a little more down to prosaic as I've given up buying cheap seed at the big box stores and buy fresher (and a little more expensive) seed at Avian Acres near Laneboro Minn. The difference is truely amazing in how much more attractive it is to the birds.
Troutbirder, For these little hangers, I purchased a little cheaper seed (from the fresh bins in baggies).
Good seed certainly makes a difference and it also is better for the birds! Way to go, Troutbirder and Mrs T. :-)
