The Daylilies Are Coming! The Daylilies Are Coming!

(An apology to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow...)
Listen my children and you shall hear,
of the mid-day bloom of daylilies dear!
'Twas the 30th of June, in late afternoon,
taking my photos - none too soon...

Hemerocallis blossoms have just begun to dazzle and brighten... and a few are now blossoming.  Future blossoms will be featured in another post.

“A garden should make you feel you've entered privileged space -- a place not just set apart but reverberant -- and it seems to me that, to achieve this, the gardener must put some kind of twist on the existing landscape, turn its prose into something nearer poetry.”

“Gardening is akin to writing stories. No experience could have taught me more about grief or flowers, about achieving survival by going, your fingers in the ground, the limit of physical exhaustion.” ― Eudora Welty

“It didn’t occur to me that… that gardening, like music, could demand practice, patience, a willingness to make mistakes.”
― Amy Stewert
You can perhaps tell I haven't been home in a few days... and that I truly need to be deadheading tomorrow morning (something to which I look forward!!!).  That being said, the mosquitoes are quite prevalent and hardy this year... so I will be "suiting up!"
Happy end-of-June gardening!  SG

Really pretty daylilies! I believe the yellow/gold ones from your parents are Stella d' Oro. Mine are blooming now, just beginning. Daylily season always makes me want to buy more of them!!!

Hi Kathy, of course, I'm sure you can guess that my favorite is 'Rosey Returns'. In fact I think I have this one. I tried 'Purple d'Oro' but it wasn't as pretty as yours. It was really pale and washed-out looking. Yours is beautiful. Also I love your banner photo. Have fun in the garden, mosquitoes be damned. :)

Hi Beth. You might think it's Stella, but to be honest, it's not. I really do have Stella all over. This plant is full-sized (or larger). The blossom is about the same size, but it blooms a few weeks later than does Stella. Thanks, though!! I can well imagine your place right now!

Yes, Grace! Rosey Returns has been around for awhile, so I would think you would have it!! Purple d'Oro began as washed out for me, but for whatever reason, these last couple of years, they've improves their color! (I have two...)

How beautiful they all are! I especially like the pink and purple ones -- they seem so exotic compared to the usual orange and yellow, which are the only kind I have. Now you've made me want some other colors. Thanks for posting the photos! -Beth

Lovely! You are ahead of me, Shady; other than my Stellas, most of my daylilies are just beginning to open up. I'm a sucker for daylilies, too, and always want more. But the ones I have are in desperate need of division, and I haven't figured out where I will put them!

Stella is my long time favorite but your collection is simply gorgeous

Hi Garden Fancy Beth! There are so many beautiful daylilies "out there!" I don't have enough good places to plant them, so some are getting way too much shade. They seem to do alright; they bloom but the plants don't fill out like the ones in the sun!

Oh, boy, Rose!! wouldn't I like to swap a few plants with you!! But, I don't have many places to plant, either!

Troutbirder, Stella is about as dependable as can be! And early, which is nice! Thanks for your compliment! :-)
