Oh, I am so Proud!

I know this is my gardening blog.
I know that.
But, perhaps the two most beautiful "flowers in my garden"
are the two children I was privileged
to participate in raising!

My daughter is a professional calligrapher.
She recently was chosen to do the lettering
on the Nebraska state ornament
sent to the White House
for the Christmas Tree.

This is the article from the
Omaha World Herald.

each of the state ornaments.

Oh, I am so proud! :-)

How wonderful for your daughter...and she is a perfect and most beautiful flower in your garden! Our blogs are a good place to celebrate and share.

Keep warm Shady!

Hi Gail! Last night it rained all night. I drove to town at 8:00 a.m., and wondered "why?" as the temperature was falling. By 8:45, as I was headed back home, it was 30 degrees and getting slick. By tonight it's supposed to be in the teens with snow. Could be nasty out there. (I'm staying indoors - where it's warm!) ;-)

Shady,

When I read stories like this about your weather...I just have to appreciate that right now...it is pouring rain! It is uncomfortable to get out in but I don't have t worry about ice! Please be careful! gail

Oh Shady Gardener, you have every right to be proud and your daughter should be proud of herself too. She does BEAUTIFUL work. That is an incredible ornament. What an honor to have an ornament hanging in the White House that she contributed to. I've always admired calligraphers and tried it once myself but my hands are not steady enough for that work. It's a real form of art. Pat yourself on the back and thanks for sharing.

Gail, the good thing about this Winter weather is that it's beautiful... makes an inspiring sight out the window! :-)

Lisa, Thanks for your friendship and your encouragement. :-)

Kathleen, I hope Cheryl's reading these nice comments. She really does Beautiful work! (I've tried, too... but I cannot commit to the work it takes to be accomplished at it! Which means I admire that about her as well!) Have a great day!

You must be very proud !
Didn't realize that each state has a ornament hanging in the white house. Very cool !
Is there only one made?
Does the artist get to keep one if more are made?
If I were you..I'd want to get my hands on a copy. What a wonderful keepsake that would be.
Congrats to you both !!

Hi Patsi, I know what you mean about wanting a copy! I'm sure they'd sell. However, I think only one is made. I wonder if they go to the Smithsonian? (I think the states provide an ornament every year.)

Thanks!! :-)

You definitely have the right to be proud, that's quite an honor! It's obvious the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. (Aren't you glad I didn't say "nut"?)

MMD, Thanks! (Yes, except it'd probably be halfway accurate!) ;-)
How are you coming on the Spring Fling plans? Not that you need anything else to think about these days!!

How wonderful! Congratulations all 'round. Beautiful ornament and what a lovely website she has. So in awe of such creativity and talent!

Hope you're in a better stretch of weather, by now. We're dark, gloomy and rainy, with torrential rains due in tonight... 3-5inches... time for the waders. I want my snow back!

Thank you everyone for the nice compliments!

Darla, Thank you for visiting. (I am proud!) ;-)

Northern Shade, Thank you. It is interesting to see the ornaments from each of the states.

Troutbirder, It is a very exacting art form, isn't it? But so beautiful.

Deb, Doesn't weather fluctuate? I really like having a little snow in December... esp. at Christmas!
Thank you for checking out Cheryl's site. It's interesting, isn't it? :-)

Hi Cheryl, I'm glad you were able to see the post. Everyone has had nice things to say! And, of course, I remain your proud mom!:-)

Hi! I came here through a link from a comment you made on someone's Skywatch post. It's fun to continue to explore, even though I'm already neglecting my housework to blog.

I live in Nebraska, so I had to comment on the lovely ornament your daughter did the writing on. How lovely! I am proud of her, too!

I enjoyed scrolling down looking at your other posts, too. I have you bookmarked, and hope to come back. I see from your sidebar, that I know some of the bloggers you know.

Hi Shady! It's been a while since I've stopped by, and seeing the beautiful ornament that you have 'blood lines' to is just wonderful! Enjoy your feeling of 'pride' in your daughters nice work. Our kids are the jewels that shine the brightest in our gardens! Jan/ThanksFor2Day
