Garden Blogger's Bloom Day - Sept. 15, 2010

How Did We?

How did we meet September midst?
When all the while we wandered
through the days that led to this...
It does quite make one ponder.

I look to what seems Nature's best
in beauty, yet so tender . . .
All things grow, mature and rest
while I can only wonder.

How lovely, Shady. You should write more often. Enjoy the remains of beautiful September.

Hi Joey, Thanks so much. It's going to be a beautiful September, isn't it? Enjoy your many trips and endeavors! :-)

Hiya Shady,
Tell me this:

Is it safe to use Perovskia or Russian Sage for cooking?
It smells the same.
Have not been been to ascertain this, even though I tried to find out for sure.

Would you use it?

That sedum is going to be spectacular when it is full out. Mine seems to attract Comma butterflies, which don't go for anything elee her.

Shady a terrrific gardener and a poet too. Multi talented you are.

Nice sedums! I'm a big fan of the Russian sage but need to get some Joe Pye weed for the butterflies.

Joco - I've seen varying opinions on Russian sage but I think most people say not to eat it. I wouldn't put it in food but I do like the scent of the leaves.

Your sedum is beautiful and I enjoyed your poem. I'll visit again!

Hi Jo, I hope you see these comments. I'll act upon Dave's recommendation to NOT add Russian sage to food. It does have a nice scent, though.

Hi Rosemary, Your seeds will be mailed today! :-) Thanks for your sweet comments.

Dave! Believe it or not, I have "regular" Joe Pye Weed growing in a very shady spot in the raised beds. It really doesn't like it there, but it bloomed for the first time last year (and again this year), after having been in its location for 4 years prior! ;-)

It's very tall, as you well know, but even 'Little Joe' gets taller than me!

Meredehuit, Thank you for your kind comments and visit. You're welcome to return! :-)

I do love sedums, even if mine flops over:) You have such a nice variety of them, Shady. And what a wonderful poem! I can hardly believe it's the middle of September already. I think I wished away summer complaining of the heat:)

Hi Shady, The flowers are nice but the poem, wow. You've got serious writing talent, girlfriend. You should be writing greeting cards or something.

I see your sedums! They look great. Happy bees too I bet.

Hi Rose, I know what you mean. Don't you think there's a trip to Illinois in order next Spring?

Hi Grace, You are too cute. :-)

Gail, Is there a "Spring Fling" planned for next year? Garden blogs bring us together, don't they?

Pretty blooms on the stonecrops - nice variety. Especially like the pink Diamond Edge

Diamond Edge has a great colour, and I see the visitors like it, too. I hope these buzzers survived the recent depopulation.

Your sunny corner bed look bright and cheery. My Russian sage is never very happy in a part shade location, but I've had it for a while, and don't really have a sunny place for it right now.

RBell, Thanks for visiting. I like Diamond Edge also.

Northern Shade, We gardeners will attempt to keep the bees happy, won't we? :-) If your Russian sage returns, you must be doing something right!

I was thinking I'd left a comment here, but maybe it was someone else's that had different kinds of sedums. I love that deep pink one the best, but am liking all of them these days. I noticed a neighbor has hers tied up so it doesn't flop. I may try that on mine. This was their second year, so maybe they will be fuller next year. I think I'll cut them back at some point so they'll be bushier.
