Sick Tricyrtis

Say "Ah!"
Patient: Tricyrtis 'Matzukaze'
Yep, your throat is coated...

This is a closer view of the same ill fellow.
Below is his brother.
This is the plant that had suffered due to drought.
At least, that's what I blamed the struggling foliage on.
And this is his flower...

I'm headed outdoors to yank these plants out of the gardens and place them directly into the garbage. However, you might like to read this article by Chris Wilson of Hallson Gardens.
My next step is to contact the company from which I received these plants.

Oh, I am sorry for you having to lose the beautiful plants and for me...I just brought home Empress! Gail

Wow... the infected plants in my garden (like Blue Wonder) don't LOOK sick, really, but your plant at the bottom is a sick puppy! I've waffled along and haven't removed the known virus infected clones in my garden, but I may rethink that after seeing your picture!

Ouch! I've got to get serious about the sickly looking tomato plants here. Or maybe follow Sigurd's advice and head back to the wilderness forgetting about it all.

Hi Gail, It was a sad realization, but they dug easily. ;-) I received a note from Chris Wilson of Hallson Gardens. He said he'd have pulled them, also. Congrats on your new Empress!!

Don, these "sickies" were within 10 feet of other new ones... I just didn't want to take the chance. It's easy to replace them. :-)

troutbirder, ha! It's feeling like fall, isn't it?? We were in SE MN this past weekend (Root River Trail) and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly!! :-)

oh no. I was just thinking of trying them again in my garden but now I'm worried. Will you replace yours or wait awhile??

Sorry for your virus troubles, but good on Hallson Gardens for being so tenacious about identifying the virus and being proactive with this insidious problem. Thoroughly enjoyed Chris Wilson's in-depth article and have bookmarked the sight... lots of info in those forums... Deb

Kathleen, Don't worry about trying these plants in your garden!! You should order from reputable places (such as the aforementioned garden site). I will replace, but with another variety... and probably from that site. :-)

GA, I am in complete admiration of Hallson Gardens for the testing they are doing on their plants... so they don't have and/or sell substandard plants. :-)

I'm sorry your plants have to go. I do recall now seeing something about this online & the photos of healthy & sick flowers. It probably was the Hallson article, which I'm sure I came across when researching HVX. Major bummer!

MMD, Bummer for sure, but I have gained total respect for Hallson Gardens and their conscientiousness! :-)
