Wildflowers in Winter Meme - Week 6

This week's subject is to be artwork.
Something created by ourselves and/or someone else.
It must feature wildflowers.

This week I'm sharing a photo of a pen and ink drawing, I created, of a fairly typical Iowa prairie entitled "My Iowa." The original was done by commission for a friend nearly a year ago. Since then, we agreed to make 200 signed and numbered prints available for sale to benefit the local Art Association. We have a new Civic and Convention Center in which the Art Association is housed. Due to this new location, a number of "wants and needs" have been identified. Thus, the reason for a fund-raiser.
(photo of the original)

For a few dollars more, I add oil pastel in the sky and watercolor pencil everywhere else.
Each sale is accompanied by a list of the flora and fauna
located within the artwork.

(The color is yet unfinished in this photo)

It's very simple.

And not at all shady.

I so like your drawing of "My Iowa." So simple, yet detailed and full of all the good things that my Forest Zoo loves. He is looking over my shoulder and very interested in what you put in your drawing. I might see if he would make me a drawing of all the things to love from our area. What else do you have to share? Your work is fantastic!

Your drawing is beautiful and draws the viewer into it. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Elizabeth Joy and La Tea Dah,

Thank you for your compliments. Yes, I'm sure Forest would be great at drawing the things around him!

Too bad we aren't a little closer in proximity! :-)

What an outstanding piece of art and what a wonderfully talented way to share the beauty of your area.

Thanks for your comments. Everything is relative - you'll hear no more complaints from this neck of the woods at the 32º temps and 6" of snow coming tomorrow. It's awkward, but I wear insulated mittens when filling feeders - had a touch of frostbite once and the old digits have never been the same.

Sam will be delighted at your response to his hot air balloons and very interested in the Iowa ballooning history..... Deb

Oh you do some beautiful work there. How wonderful to be able to draw like this. Enjoy...

Wow...I had no idea you had this talent...Now I know where Cheryl gets it!

Shady Gardener said...

Thanks for the comments and compliments! :-)

Deb, I continue to remind myself that "the snow is beautiful, the snow is beautiful." It really is. I'm tiring of the cold temps. Say, though. If I were just a bit nearer... 32 degrees with snow could result in a snow brigade of your own! ;-)

The ballooning at Indianola is probably worth the google-search. :-)

Ellen B, I look forward to having more time to draw. (I relinquish my duties on the "boards" of two organizations "boards" before long. I hope that helps!)

Dellits, Ah,ha. Or I get it from her. ;-) And it hearkens back to my dad and mom...

Thanks for the visit, on what has turned out to be a snowy day. Looks like about six inches will do it, as it's tapering off, now.

'Twas a lovely lilt to your email, with just a hint of Scottish brogue. And, yes, I do like house #1 - I might like to live there, at least I'd much prefer it over photo #2!

Well, off to snow removal... Deb

Yowee. Your drawing is fabulous!

I'm taking an online course in botanical drawing. (Posted about it...embarrassing.) I am just a stick figure draw-er. I would be proud to have something in my portfolio that looks like this!!!!

Nancy, I wonder how your whole blog disappeared? I like the looks of your new one, though! Your are a good thought reflector! (Is that a real term?) ;-)

MMD, you are one to talk! What a well-rounded person you are!

Deb, I know. That's the closest I could come to "Irish." ha. OMWinter is still hanging around, distributing snow. Six inches was quite the accumulation!

robin, I didn't see that post, but then, I haven't had much time to look around this morning. I need to take a trip out of town today.

Dirty Knees,
Thanks for your kind words. So far we've sold several. :-)

Heard the weatherman talking about snow coming to Iowa, this morning. I've still got a white roof and 2-foot icicles, dripping in the sun. Hope you don't get too much! (Although the snow people may enjoy it.)

The lunar eclipse photos were taken by another photographer friend, S.R. Calef (who takes most of the gardenauthor pics). But, Shutterbug has done some great moonshots.

Lucy's anticipating a visit to her blog by Sidney..... Deb

That is a beautiful drawing ... what a great project. You are a talented woman!

Hi Deb! A meeting was cancelled about an hour ago (Yea!). It's just begun to snow. There must be something in (or to) the forecast. We'll see.

Sidney was elated when he heard about Lucy's blog! :-)

Kerri, Oh, my goodness. I've just viewed your Photographs! The comment comes right back to you!

Kate, You have my admiration. Thank you for your comment and thank you for your visit.

This is terrific! I loved it as "pen and ink" but the color really gives it some zing and interest.

Shady Gardener said...

gumbo lily, Thank you. I like it both ways, too. I purchased one for myself and will add color. ;-)

Hi Shady Gardener,

I just have to tell you what a beautiful drawing that is - you possess a true talent! Working with pen and ink is a really terrific medium for when you want to show all the fine details. Maybe someday when I'm not too busy being a mommy I'll re-explore the world of drawing and sketching. You've certainly inspired me.

Thank you,

Look forward to it!!! I pretty much waited until my children grew up... Thank you and I'll wait to see what you come up with before long. :-)

Hi it's me again!

Just wanted to let you know there are now photos on my blog of some of my previous artistic attempts. It's all your fault. ;) Check them out when you have a chance.

Hi Cathy,
If I can take any amount of credit for what you're doing, let me at it! ;-) You have some beautiful artwork.
